I would too. If the individual countries need to trade and all that they can and yes it sucks for land-locked states, but they aren't forced to stay Montana and Idaho, they can create the Montanaho if they want too.

It would be an interesting social experiment to see whether Democrat or Republican imbecilic legislatures screw things up the worst. I'd be willing to bet that within a couple of years we'd see proposals to fragment states by county.

I propose just two countries. One would be named the Elitist States of America - it would consist of the current west coast states, NE states, and Hawaii.
The country formed from the remainder would be named Flyover.

As to your first wondering, it would probably depend on the observer. I think California is doing awfully well, but I keep reading conservatives talk about California as a failed state hellhole. So, it probably depends on your priorities and what you value.

I definitely agree with your second statement.

It's fun isn't it. The more left leaning think small towns are failed hellholes, and the right think the huge urban areas are mostly hellholes.

Why stop there? Why not have every tax lot a sovereign country? If your neighbor offends you, you can declare war on him. Geneva conventions apply, of course - you cannot piss on his corpse or rape his wife.

Stop telling me what to do or I shall unleash the full fury of my military upon you. I think I've got a slingshot somewhere.

I'd like to see how well the more rural areas would do without the support from the more wealthy urban areas that provide double the tax revenue per capita of the more rural areas. No more rural electrification such as the Tennessee Valley Authority provides and has provided. This means less power poles which means less cable and telephone. No more shipping problematic health care patients to urban hospitals with their increase capacity and increased capability. Taxes would go up0 dramatically for rural areas. Let the bellyaching begin in rural areas known as the country named Flyover.

You are correct that would be a big help.

On other matter, I had prescription to fill and we're told to stay home so I asked about delivery. The med (for control of repetitive stress injuries) is a controlled substance, who knows why, you sure can't get high on it, so can't be delivered. I asked what if someone is actually in quarantine and needs prescription? Pharmacist said he doesn't know. Serious? No one has taken in consideration that people need prescriptions when under quarantine?

I'm left leaning and I love small towns and the open spaces. I'm a progressive, but I'd be fine living in Burns, or Lakeview, or John Day or Baker City or LaGrande. My wife would hate it a bunch, even though she loves camping over there

I agree with some of that, but I strongly disagree with your "both sides" stuff...I'm thinking that's bunk, but maybe I'm recalling things wrong:

the Democratic House worked with Munchin and the White House to pass a bill in short order 10 days ago. They did this while the republican senate was on recess...in a crisis. It would have passed sooner except that Louis Gohmert (R) held it up in the House for 24 hours and Rand Paul delayed unanimous consent in the Senate. The D's worked hard to make it a bi-partisan bill and not add pet bullshit to it and that's when they have the power to just shove shit down the throats of the R's but they didn't do it. They wanted to get something passed and stop the bleeding

that's the opposite of what is happening in the Senate. The R's are sticking a poison pill provision in with that 500B corporate "secret" slush fund with no fucking accountability....and Trump won't even promise that some of that money won't go to his businesses

so no, it's not "both sides" do it

that's not to say that in the 'climate' McConnell is forcing the Senate into that the D's aren't playing the same stupid fucking game. But 10 days ago Pelosi laid out a template for getting something done that the senate refuses to follow

my guess is that somehow the senate will get that bill passed with the bullshit secret corporate bailout in some form or another then immediately start blaming the D's in the house for holding up relief packages. Fuck that bailout and especially fuck it hard if it's 'secret', arbitrary, and hidden, with no strings attached

A clause in the Republican bill excludes nonprofits receiving Medicaid from any stimulus money. Although the stated target is Planned Parenthood (because women with COVID-19 really need unplanned pregnancy) the definition would also include many mental health centers, nursing homes, and rape crisis/domestic violence facilities.

    Amy Klobuchar's husband has COVID-19.

Trump is furious that Governor Cuomo is getting better response to his press conferences than Trump is to his campaign rallies.

Fox news is mounting attacks on Dr. Fauci, arguably the most trusted person in the country, because he insists on saying when Trump is wrong on facts.

Hobby Lobby decided to stay open, and offer no sick leave, because they had a vision from god.

The governor of Mississippi decided against emergency measures, calling for a day of prayer instead. He was praised by Fox. Because who needs Fauci when you can worship god, I mean Trump?

At first I thought Munchin was a hilarious name and then I stopped and thought wait a minute. So, I looked it up. It's Mnuchin.
