OT Whats the first restaurant you go to once this is all over?

Southland BBQ is great BBQ in Portland also, probably end up there. I also like The Original Dineraunt for their chicken and waffles.

I found Sushi!!!! Just got here, its even good sushi! So happy.

And so, this is how it begins, again.

 

Been to La Provence a few times. Good, but not excellent. Very spendy.

 

We've had great Korean food in LA. GREAT. Went there once to a Korean restaurant with Mags, his fiancee (now his wife) and his mom. You've never met nicer people.
We went to a Korean restaurant in Chicago that had absolutely delicious food. Our table as separated from the entry by a thin partition so we could hear those that entered but not see them. So, one guy comes in speaking perfect Korean with no trace whatsoever of any accent. As he came around the corner we saw that he was Caucasian and spoke perfect English. God, I was jealous.
Best Korean food we ever had outside of Korea was probably in West Virginia near Washington, D.C. They had a buffet that was to die for, They had not only great Kalbi but mouth watering kimchees and two drinks, one a sweet rice punch and the other a sweet cinnamon punch, both chilled to perfection.
Best Korean food we ever had, and it's a very close call, may have been at a little open air restaurant along a pathway up a mountain to see a Buddhist shrine in Taegu. They had some sort of green mountain vegetable that was kim cheed and a bit salty. That was about 35 years ago and my mouth still waters when I think of it.
One of my sister-in-laws made some kimchee out of some water cress that was incredible. She also made some kimchee out of pickling cucumbers that was one of the best kimchees I've had in my life. Sadly, that sister-in-law, who makes me call her noona, which means older sister to a male, now has dementia and can not long cook, not even boil water. This is a very deep loss for lots of reasons because we were extremely close. She and I are still close and she loves it when I tell her that she and I are a team. She also had a great sense of humor and would get me laughing rolling on the floor in stitches.

 

Lanny, ever been to The Observatory? Nondescript, but I've heard they serve great food.

 

The restaurant I love and miss the most? Well, that's hard to say because there are so many that are virtually tied:
1. The Original Pancake House;
2. Buster's in Tigard;
3. Chang's Mongolian Grill, somewhere between Beaverton and Hillsboro just off Cornell near the Krispy Creme;
4. Jake's Famous Crawfish;
5. The Ringside on West Burnside, where they know steaks;
6.Southpark;
7. Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, where they also know steaks.

 

Kobe Steakhouse. It's hibachi style and it's my birth month. They give you a free dinner in the month of your birthday if you sign up to their newsletter. I could go pick it up for take out, but it just isn't the same.

 

Haha. Hopefully there wont be any pig type squeals.

When it is safe to do so, buddy, we should get together and go to the Mongolian Grill again.

 

I like a lot of those places as well.

 

You’re “meh” on La Provence but you list Busters(!!!????!!!!) as your #2 restaurant???? Hmmmmmmm......but then, you also think Jake’s is good......I guess we won’t be dining out together anytime soon.

 

I like trying different cuisines.

Please keep posting places you like, buddy. You seem to find the smaller unknown places (at least unknown to me).

 

I can't believe Busters is still around.

 

One of the main interests (besides the dog) my wife have in retirement (and even before that) is dining out. But it does tend to get into a rut, even in a foodie town like Portland. And since Wilsonville is pretty much a dining wasteland, we have to travel for decent food. So we do try to shake things up occasionally. We’re also pizza snobs, so we are always ready to try the new places when they open.

A few more places;
Kargi Gogo on Alberta. Georgian place with killer dumplings amongst other stuff you don’t usually find in PDX
Pine State Biscuits. You probably know that one....
Ocean City (if you want decent dim sum. Where all the Asians seem to go)
Master Kong (same as above, only less Asians and more Gweilo)
The Star and/or Dove Vivi if you like cornmeal crust pizza
Chez Jose (gringo Mexican food at it’s best)
The Matador (same as above but very dog friendly in the good weather, killer drinks and best of all, no kids allowed).
Lovely’s Fifty Fifty (if you don’t mind having to wait until dinner time for your pizza)
Tastebud (in Multnomah. Also a dinner only place)

Anyway, just a few. I’d like to hear of some more good hole in the wall places myself.......but of course, how many restaurants are going to come back from this coronavirus thing, let alone keep going?? But now I’ve gone and made myself hungry......

 

The bar attached to South Park is excellent, and a great deal too.

 

I'm a bit worried about one of my favorite places. It suffered through some rough time due to recent freeway construction.

We were feeling like heading there and then this hit. It is called Lolas. It was on Diners, Drive ins and Dives.

I still want to do Sterling brunch too.
