It was a strange race with how Bernie jumped out to such a big lead and Biden fell significantly behind him and others, then South Carolina came along and Biden took off while Bernie's campaign fell off the cliff. What a wild swing. It will be interesting to see who Biden selects as his running mate.
The response to the pandemic, the lack of available healthcare, the poor minimum wage and lack of job security in these times are the exact reasons WHY we needed someone like Bernie. My dad just put on the chopping block at work because of Covid related issues, and mom currently doesn't work, so both will likely lose their med insurance at the end of the month unless he can find another position at his work. I can't add either to my insurance as dependents because they don't qualify. They can pay for medicare because they're fine financially, but imagine if they weren't. ugh. Now more than ever, we needed change on a grand scale, we needed universal healthcare, or at the very least cheaper access to it. This was the expected outcome, but still a gut punch.
If they aren't working then they should be able to qualify for medicaid which pretty much covers anything at no cost if they qualify.
Really not sure how I feel about this at all. On one hand I'm definitely not a socialist. On the other, he had ideas and thoughts on issues that I feel like needed to be talked about and even if I didn't agree with him on all those things I thought him being around at least made people talk about those issues. Healthcare, Education, the Climate, etc. All should still be front and center discussions and actions taken to make those systems actually work again IMO.
The Press went with Joe. If they can make you feel a certain way they can make you think a certain way.

It was a very close race between Trump and Sanders as to which one told the most and biggest lies. The only reason Sanders was not fact checked more, and quoted more, is very few took him as a serious threat, even his own party was against him. If you combine the IQ of Trump and Sanders, then blend the best qualities of both. What you end up with would be Mike Tyson. Good riddance to trash, and his toxic faulty ideas. One clown down, one to go.
The notion of change on a grand scale intrigues me. I think that there is room for a better social safety net. I also think that the coming age of artificial intelligence will mandate that we rethink our economy as more and more people find that their jobs can be done by intelligent machines. That said, I think that it's going to require that what passes for "progressive" thinking grow up and reinvent itself in a way that has less of a "let's be like Sweden" vibe to something that better fits the persona of this country. America has always seen itself as the land of opportunity where anyone can find a way to climb up to a bigger slice of an ever-growing pie. Just taking the existing pie and cutting it up so everyone gets the same sized bite isn't very exciting or original. To me, both Warren and Bernie had way too much of an unrealistic view that all that's needed to make things better is to tax the crap out of rich folks, particularly getting at their basic wealth because they're so good at hiding income. That notion fails to look at where the wealth of the extremely rich is placed. It's invested in broad portfolios of relatively unliquid assets like companies, stocks, bonds, real estate, etc. They don't have it sitting in bank accounts waiting for the government to come along and collect some 2-4% of the wealth on an annual basis, and it's not as if taking that wealth wouldn't have impacts on jobs and creation of the material goods that we all use. I think Bernie was a dinosaur in his views of what is needed to remake our society. I certainly don't have the answers, but I'm more than willing to consider that there are ways that we can look at that will increase the access to basic necessities of life for a broader spectrum of our society.
I think Bernie's heart failure early in the campaign killed off his chances as much as anything.....I don't think Biden is a strong leading candidate against Trump....not a good sign but Bernie wouldn't get any crossover votes so...I guess that's what we face.
Why is socialist such a bad word? We're not in Cold War times anymore. And fwiw, the current setup isn't truly a capitalism when billionaires are getting tax breaks and bailouts. That helps no one except the very rich. I hate that Bernie embraced that term in his campaign-- he should have known the majority of the public is too stupid to look past it to actually understand his policies.
