saw this on oregonlive, a nice story in all of this
    https://www.oregonlive.com/teamoreg...ree-grocery-delivery-service-for-seniors.html

Some Roosevelt High School students with serious technological chops and a desire to help others have created a free grocery home delivery service for senior citizens nervous to venture to the store because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Roosevelt junior Terren Gurule was brainstorming with classmate Miguel O’Loughlin when they hit on the idea of creating a call center for seniors and people who can’t shop because of underlying health concerns.

“We wanted to do something beneficial to help the community,” Gurule said.

Both students belong to the Community Betterment via Engineering and Technology (CBET) Club, which has set up the call center and is taking calls between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.

The CBET Club partnered with Roosevelt’s Key Club, which will deliver to homes in North Portland within 72 hours of an order being placed. Spanish speakers are available to take calls.

People wishing to use the service will pay by credit card. The students will process it through the Square mobile payment service, which means those using the service don’t have to decipher a website.

Key Club members wearing masks and gloves will make no-contact deliveries.

I guess you missed the 8 governors today who essentially said they would be making those decision based upon the situations in their own states. The 3 west coast governors released a joint statement affirming cooperation on future action. Even Mike Dewine, R, was on tv tonight talking about it. He tried to be really deferential to the mad king, but he basically said the buck stops with governors, not in the white house throne room

Congress can't pass a bill deleting parts of the constitution because trump is fantasizing about imaginary power

besides all that, if trump tries to open up the economy on May 1st while several states are refusing to cooperate and there is another surge of cases and deaths in weeks afterward, trump is DOA in the election. That's one item of advice he's likely to pay attention to

Sure they can. Look up the National Emergency Act of 1975-76. A lot of civil liberty violations in there.

a question I've been thinking of, and maybe it transcends the rancorous and often stupid partisan divide, is this: if all these experts knew about the dangers and infectious rate of Covid at the end of January, as all the reporting indicates....did anybody on the federal level talk to the governor or Louisiana and the mayor of New Orleans and recommend cancelling Mardi Gras?

please point out the language in there that says that the President can override the 10th amendment & cancel orders of governors in states that have declared their own emergencies. I don't see it.

*** Why it matters: It's not totally clear under what authority Trump is talking about, as the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution gives states the "police powers" to regulate behavior during a public health crisis.
    • Asked who told him that the president has this authority, Trump responded: "We are going to write up papers on this. It's not going to be necessary because the governors need us one way or the other. Because ultimately it comes with the federal government."

I can’t give that information without ordering the text from the library. The summary does show absolute authority over some civil liberties.

In other words, "Nice state you got there. Be a shame if anything happened to it."
