After this COVID-19 purgatory, the entire energy system will be morphed. Those that supply electric are gonna win. Prefer gas for now IMO

    Hello darkness, my old friend
Nuclear power is actually a great option--people greatly overestimate the risk of a melt-down with the most modern generations of nuclear power plants.

I agree and if they wanted to de commission one, it would be a pain in the ass. Only a few fools like those in charge in Three Mile island, Chernobyl, Ukraine and The folks in Japan (who got It both ways) gave us risk.

I disagree. Once the rods in a reactor core begin the fission process, they continue to produce heat and energy for around 6 years. If they aren’t maintained constantly with a cooling system, they will melt down and cause catastrophe. All it takes is a natural disaster, extended power outage or human error to cause a major, catastrophic meltdown. It’s happened 3 times in the last 40 years. There have been hundreds of other less severe events or close calls in that time as well.

Humans aren’t capable of harnessing nuclear energy responsibly.

They gave us major meltdowns, and all three of those ‘fools’ countries still produce nuclear energy, a lot of it.

I like the idea of solar, its also great not having to wire up a grid. Have a battery backup and backup generator. But the cost is still high. Also panels now are bad for the environment. If they can make them recyclable or at least allow materials to be separated when disposing.

Stuff is so energy efficient nowadays too.

Nuclear has downsides but so do all energy sources. Compared to all the health issues and even deaths of coal, oil, gas maybe we would be better off with more nuclear.
