    ...to be what we've been hoping for. I know it's early and I know it's not a vaccine but here's to hoping this will at least save some lives;

Gilead Sciences reports positive drug results for remdesivir as coronavirus treatment

Pharmaceutical company Gilead Sciences on Wednesday reported potentially encouraging results from a trial for a drug that's being tested as a treatment for the coronavirus.

Gilead said that the antiviral drug remdesivir produced "similar improvement" in patients over a 10-day treatment plan compared with a five-day treatment plan – and that it recorded "no new safety" issues among hospitalized patients who "well-tolerated" the treatment in the study.

“The study demonstrates the potential for some patients to be treated with a 5-day regimen, which could significantly expand the number of patients who could be treated with our current supply of remdesivir," said Merdad Parsey, chief medical officer of Gilead Sciences, in a statement. "This is particularly important in the setting of a pandemic, to help hospitals and healthcare workers treat more patients in urgent need of care."

Gilead's stock rose 9% in premarket trading.

The initial results released Wednesday come after a report two weeks ago by the medical site STAT suggested potentially positive results in one of its remdesivir trials.

Hopefully Trump doesn’t say he’s happy with the progress.

Yeah, same. It would be nice if this were based on actual science.

Personally, I wouldn't care if Trump comes up with a vaccine that he concocted in the oval office men's room...I just want people to stop dying because of this calamity.

And if he can do that, yes, I will vote for him, and proudly wear a MAGA hat with matching pajamas.

If trump were to come up with a vaccine :biglaugh:

I would still never vote for him, but then again, he wouldn't ever invent a vaccine.

Ha!...which is precisely why I worded it the way I did...it was kind of a left handed proposition. :bgrin:

The only thing with an effect somewhat reminiscent of a vaccine that Trump can be responsible for is if he drops out of the race (by eliminating the garbage that disperses in his wake)

WTF does every piece of coronavirus news around here have to involve Trump? Good grief.

He has many titles and descriptions, many accurately obscene in nature, but I fail to see why he has to monopolize every thread like this.

The thread was created about something that may be very good news. People are going to reply and post the way they post.

Disagree. People rarely post the way they post. Mods work 24/7 at editing posts, replacing the content with whatever we think the personality we've created for you would want to say. It's exhausting work, but we've created an online community with a number of interesting 'characters' which we refine continuously, sometimes abandoning the ones that don't resonate with the audience or have outlived their usefulness.

Sure, you and Cup will get into yet another endless back and forth with Mags and El Pres over the usual Trump bad, Trump evil blather. If only there were threads for that conversation to take place.

Yeah, I’m wasting my time here. Guess I’m just in a pissy mood.

barfo, I wasn't referring to people posting in an way that would intentionally violate the TOS...I was talking about people taking things off topic a bit...not actually hijacking a thread but simply making posts that are not necessarily in tune with the OP's original theme.

Hell, it pretty much happens in nearly every thread.

Can't/won't speak for Cup but you're wrong about me...I will not do that...and hey, everyone gets in a pissy mood sometimes.

I know, and I wasn't really responding to your post at all, just using it as an excuse to post some silliness. Which just proves your point.

Because man, Trump either is or isn’t involved in every good or bad thing that has ever existed. Duh.
