http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2933472I love this move. Darko is still very young, can still become a star. Hes said to be an intense post defender, which we need and hes an excellent shotblocker. Great move by Memphis...and he only is getting around 7mill a year...which is very good considering what he was asking.
Memphis needs a true center. this is a good deal. Darko wasnt half bad last year I belive he put up 10+ ppg and several bpg. nice move. 7 mil is a bit of a reach but if he continues to develop it isnt a terrible deal.
Compared to him asking for 10mill a season....7mill isnt that bad. And with Memphis, it was really do or die situation. We had ot sign somebody this offseason cause the cap would shrink from this offseason to the next..I wanted either Milicic or Varejao...and we got Milicic.
Dammit, I was hoping for the Rockets to pick him up for the MLE. Whatever. Nice move by Memphis..good shot blocker who won't hunder offensive flow. Lots of upside.
Excellent pickup, Darko fills a big time need and I think he fits beautifully in Memphis' up-tempo system. I like the finesse combo at the 4-5, and both Pau/Darko are excellent passing bigs that should mesh well with all the slashing athletes. I still think he is getting payed a little more than he should, considering the fact that he really hasn't proven much, but he obviously has potential. I like the move.
No....Darko is a very good compliment to Pau..why trade a player who fits great in Memphis new system?
Anyone else find it ironic that the Grizz should've had the 2nd pick in 2003 and now they get that player four years later?
Haha, Yeah...people have been saying that since its come out Darko signed with Memphis....Just think...all of this(new coach, new style, youth movement, darko signing) wouldve never happened if Gasol didnt get injured in the World Championships...ITS DESTINY!
Eh. I doubt Darko does anything really productive with Memphis. He averaged what...8 and 5 last year. Maybe he'll do that, but this signing wasn't bad.
In limited minutes he got 8 and 5....and all we need from him is good rebounding and defense. I expect a solid 12ppg, 9rpg, 2bpg....I would be satisfied with that...with him being only 21 too...
When are people going to understand that overpaying is part of free agency...most players get overpaid in free agency...look at Lewis, Kapono etc.

Just because it happens, doesn't mean it should.

You drafted Conley and signed Darko. Both are young players that should develop nicely and fit the team system. $7 mill might be overpaying slightly for what Darko is now, but his upside is worth the risk. Giving him 8 figures a year would've been a mistake, but this deal is a fair signing.
I just realized that Marc Iavorani is one of the guy's responsible for the blossomin of Amare Stoudemire - I see some of him in Darko, where am I going with this?......
I think the best part of this deal for the Grizzlies is that it is only a three year deal, even if it is worth 7 million a year. At three years, he has time to learn, but will have to keep trying and working hard or he will find himself unemployed in three years with no more money coming. With a player that has as much to work on offensively as Darko does, that is a good thing, to make sure he stays hungry.

Anywho, 3 years is not much of a committment, alright deal for Memphis.
