It was for the MLE and that was his price either with Memphis or another team. He went to Memphis and that was a solid deal for them. It's not overpaying, look at some of the players that have gotten the MLE in the past few years.

The MLE is $5.3 million, Darko's averages out to 7 per year (although I'm sure it fluctuates).

It might be for slightly over the MLE at 7 million a year, but it's still not breaking the bank for him, and at 3 years it's a good signing in my opinion. They get solid defense and shot blocking right away, and a big body to help out. His offense isn't up to par yet, but he has three years to work on it with a good coach, that should help to further his understanding and talent in the game. I like the deal for someone with the potential that Milicic has.

It's not that ridiculous... it could be worse, right valo?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (valo35 @ Jul 12 2007, 11:45 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>His offense isn't up to par yet,</div>Yes, but he is still versatile enough for him to immediately blend in to the uptempo Memphis style. His passing could prove to be extremely valuable...passing mixed with some outside shooting could mean he could be quite effective in the high post, which is what the Kings ran very effectively with Webber. As for his price tag...so what? The PF/center marker is piss poor this year (as a Rocket fan, I know this first hand) and Memphis really needed this player. Even if he isn't a proven player yet, he has shown enough at the age of 22 that is it fairly low risk, potentially high reward.
Considering memphis had no center other then rotating gasol to C occasionally, this wasnt a bad move at all. Im not sure but what center started last year? lorenzo wright or some other trash center?
HEY! Tsakalidas actually started for us the year before last...and whats funny is he was getting a good 12 or ppg half of the season...we learned last season thats because of Pau...haha. Ive seen that man dunk maybe 3 times...and once he did the Stro Show and everybody fell outve their seats..LMAO.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Why do you think he got limited minutes in the first place?</div>Becuase hes young, and Orlando want a stout experienced player beside Howard like Battie...

I actually like Warrick-Milicic combination for Memphis. Along with Pau Gasol, that's a scary frontcourt in a couple of years. Warrick is just stratching the surface and Darko can only improve.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Nitro1118 @ Jul 11 2007, 10:03 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Dammit, I was hoping for the Rockets to pick him up for the MLE. Whatever. Nice move by Memphis..good shot blocker who won't hunder offensive flow. Lots of upside.</div>do you expect the rockets to get every single good player on the market? seriously.but good signing by memphis. wasn't too expensive, so not bad at all.

Outside of Memphis, no one had the money to sign Darko for more than the MLE, and with Adelman as the new coach of the Rockets, it could have been one of the most alluring place for Darko. He was the ONLY worthwhile FA big man on the market, and signing him could have meant saving up the others for a future trade if necassary. Now it's a must that the Rockets will have to trade either one or a package of the following...Battier, Alston, Head, expiring contracts, draft pick....just to get a legit PF.So excuse me for being hopeful, especially since Darko would have made sense for the Rockets and if Memphis didn't sign him, would have been within reasonable reach.
Good signing guys...you guys really needed a Center to go along with Pau. His offense is slowly coming around, and the guy plays D, gets boards and blocks shots. That's valuable in today's NBA.
Cav fans can be so stupid...now they all think Memphis signed Darko just to trade him to Cleveland for Varejao in a sign and trade...wow...
