This story takes on a much darker tone during the coronavirus.

If I kew then what I know now, I would have told my coach that my bat busting odyssey was due to a bat epedemic.

Used to go to Louisville every July for 20 years and it's a nice town but extremely humid.

here on the big island you would refer to your buffoon as 'one babooze'. try it, i think you will find that it is an equally gratifying descriptive .

The Karen's have really lost their shit during this pandemic. The sheer entitlement is breathtaking.

Why would you wait 3 hours at any restaurant?

    But a Red Lobster?!?

yey, yeh, yeh,...nah. the big island really hasn't hicupped much at all. lowes, homedepot, costco, packed every day, traffic busy all day, i don't see it. way way way out maybe different. different mindset here. different demographic for islands than mainland. never hear nothing about it at all (riots). his remarks are completely from leftfield. except retaraunts slower and hotels and bars slow slow life remains much the same. just a lot less tourists. oh, and kids spending time with family. this is considered a good thing here.

The waiting room at Red Lobster is a trip.

Senior Citizens, the Trailer Park and the Ghetto all in the same room.

Their biscuits are good though, but you can buy the mix at costco.

I'm looking at property on the Big Island recently....wow.....first search I found 843 homes under 140k on the Hilo side of the island....I'm thinking of a winter garden, orchard place for the future winter get away...buyers market since the volcano and now with the pandemic it seems...bananas, papayas, lilikoi, good fishing....don't need a job anymore ...grow some coffee. I'm almost convinced....just have to talk the wife into going back...she'd rather winter in Taiwan

i am sure you remember/realize lease land/homes are a relative bargain here, it is fee simple where the prices go way up. puna/pohala since volcano and even before have been way more affordable than west side. drugs and crime are reasons for caution in those areas. zillow is predicting an increase in vacation rentals for sale to show up on our market soon too. the return of tourism is going to come at a pretty measured pace IMHO. protecting the kupuna is on everyones' mind, especially considering how many families are both matriarchal and multi generational in there home environs.
(the women run everything here still) plenty rain hilo side for growing and mostly infastructure for city/county water. catchement there is small concern too. less CC&R communities an added advantage. sometimes kona side feels like the folks that came from the mainland brought their "baggage" with them and think they need to inflict everyone with their ideas about how things need to be run. they have also driven up the cost of housing that has necessitated multi generational family units living together. very hard to start a family and buy a home because of it.
ps come fishing on the leeward side anytime.
