I think one problem with that is, it's unfair to Dallas, who has a sizeable lead, and unfair in the east, where 9 and 10 are a decent ways back. It seems like it's only needed for 8,9,10,11 in the west, who are all close to eachother.
Yeah, the NBA has always been a marketing machine so for them to bring sizzle wouldn’t be surprising.
Everything still seems to be on the table. https://basketball.realgm.com/wiret...ing-Competition-Formats-For-Restarting-Season
Posters here are coming up with ideas that make the most sense in rooting for a fans team and are fun to follow. The league and players are returning for money. The reason they want a normal regular season for all teams is they can then still get all the local and national TV revenue that have signed contracts based on games played.
The most logical solution would be leaving all the eastern teams outside the top 8 home and having a play in tournament for the final spot in the west. But that doesn’t take into account the revenue teams would lose by not fulfilling their 70 (or whatever the minimum is) games. So the next most logical solution imo is 72 or 76 games + a play in tournament.
I wouldn't be surprised if there was at least 1 player infected. It will make other spots organizations think twice.
https://www.oregonlive.com/nba/2020/05/the-nba-seems-on-the-cusp-of-a-comeback-plan-analysis.html "Pick a scenario for the return-to-play plan, and someone has surely heard it already. Bringing back all 30 teams and resuming the regular season is an option. So is bringing back something like 20 teams and having an expanded playoff of sorts, a notion that essentially mirrors what the NHL is talking about these days. A condensed playoff has also been discussed." This. We get in the playoffs with a healthy Nurk, hell yeah.
The season will be resumed, probably at Disney World. The NBA and Disney are finalizing how much the NBA will pay Disney to do it. The regular season will finish because teams have to play a minimum 70 games in a season according to the CBA. Not to mention the NBA wants to make money. The season will be played out within a 4 week period followed by the playoffs.
https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-playoffs-only-scenario-becoming-increasingly-likely/ Rumor: NBA playoffs-only scenario becoming increasingly likely “I really think there’s a good chance that this is only gonna be a 16-team playoff,” said Windhorst. “If that is the case, it opens up the possibility for something that Adam Silver has long wanted, which is to seed from 1 through 16 in the postseason and go that route.”
- Seed the Playoffs 1-16. - The top 13 teams are locked in (13 has a 7 game lead over 14). They play 6 games amongst themselves for seeding purposes. - 14-20 play 6 games amongst each other for playoff positioning. Here is the current league standings 14th-20th (number determined based off 14th). 14. Memphis Grizzlies -- 15. Brooklyn Nets 1.5 GB 16. Orlando Magic 2.0 GB ---------------------------------------- 17. Portland Trail Blazers 3.5 GB 18. New Orleans Pelicans 3.5 GB 19. Memphis Grizzlies 3.5 GB 20. San Antonio Spurs 4.0 GB The should alter the standings placement for these final 6 games as follows (number determined based off 14th) 14. Memphis Grizzlies -- 15. Brooklyn Nets 1.0 GB 16. Orlando Magic 1.0 GB ---------------------------------------- 17. Portland Trail Blazers 2.0 GB 18. New Orleans Pelicans 2.0 GB 19. Memphis Grizzlies 2.0 GB 20. San Antonio Spurs 2.0 GB Then all teams play each other. The tiebreaker could be based on: - Who won H2H in their most recent game (of the 6) - Total H2H - Standings Placement going into the final 6 games - A tiebreaker game? You could also make the case to have a 16 v 17 playin. This is the best format because: - Teams that still have a chance to make a postseason run can still make the playoffs. - Teams that have a lead for one of the final spots still get a similar lead (ex. instead of being ahead 3.5 games with 16 left, Memphis is ahead 2 games with 6 left). - Every game means something since it's among a bunch of teams gearing for that final spot. - The two eastern conference teams have to earn their way in, which makes sense if the seeding is 1-16. - This would be the perfect time to try a 1-16 seeded playoffs. - Teams reach 70 games to fulfill contracts. - 6 games is a good warmup for all postseason teams.
If you rearranged the standings for the top 13 it could look something like this: 1. Milwaukee Bucks -- 2. Los Angeles Lakers 2.0 GB 3. Toronto Raptors 4.0 GB 4. Los Angeles Clippers 5.0 GB 5. Boston Celtics 6.0 GB 6. Denver Nuggets 6.0 GB 7. Utah Jazz 7.0 GB 8. Miami Heat 7.0 GB 9. Oklahoma City Thunder 8.0 GB 10. Houston Rockets 8.0 GB 11. Indiana Pacers 9.0 GB 12. Philadelphia 76ers 9.0 GB 13. Dallas Mavericks 9.0 GB
I like the idea of the "group stage": https://www.theringer.com/nba/2020/5/26/21270365/nba-restart-world-cup This would definitely create some drama: The writer suggests Eastern Teams wouldn't like it, understandably, but maybe we could throw them a bone by (a) excluding the 5 Western "tier 5" teams from the lottery (obviously) and (b) perhaps making the lottery chances more even, so, say, the Wizards get a better-than-usual shot at moving up.
Takeaways: 1. Stupid headline. 2. Dame has been doing two workouts a day at the PF since being allowed to return.
