Cavs Continue Search For Point Guard
QUOTE

[IMG]The Cavaliers' pursuit of a point guard has heated up again.According to multiple league executives, the Cavs and Sacramento Kings have restarted talks to bring Mike Bibby to Cleveland. The two teams nearly completed a deal shortly before February's trading deadline and have been in discussions again over the past several days.A version of the deal was close to happening Thursday, sources said, in a three-way move with the San Antonio Spurs .
-RealGMWe'd obviously have to give up Gooden, which I'm not to high on.. The only thing I dislike about Drew is the fact he knows crap about defense. But his offense and offensive rebounding is huge for this team. Gonna be tough without him, believe it or not.

Well would you be able to keep Anderson Varejao? If you can re-sign him then a starting 5 of Z, Verajao, Lebron, Hughes, and Bibby could easily make another finals run. your frontcourt would be a little weak but most teams have that problem these days.

Yeah, we would resign Sasha and Andy and then I hear were gonna make an offer at James Posey? Dunno, but thats what I heard. Anderson is much better used off the bench, I don't like the idea of him starting. I'd rather get a defensive big somehow via trade or sign someone out there that can play some solid defense. We don't really need offense down-low, Z can pull out and knock down the 18 foot if we need our bigs to get active. With Bibby running the offense, James and Hughes are gonna be doing a lot better. Having Sasha and Gibson off the bench is a good thing, they can come in and give Hughes, James and even Bibby a rest.

I dont see how the Kings benefit though. They already ahve Hawes, Rahim, and Miller....why do they need Gooden? This is probably why SA was in talks cause SA could use another big, and they might have some pieces the Kings want.

They would need Gooden because he can rebound well, he can score, and he is also very young. Kings are just really trying to get rid of Mike Bibby right now and it looks like Cleveland is the place for him. At the looks of it, I don't see anything getting done. I really dunno if Ferry wants to get rid of Gooden, he is most likely trying to rip The Kings off by keeping Gooden and doing some other kinda deal.

I think it's best for the Cavs to focus more on bringing in a better option downlow, or shooters. Right now, while LeBron is their main option, he is also a great playmaker and is doing a good job there. Bibby really isn't a need right now. If they were to bring in an upgraded scorer downlow, or more shooters to spread the floor, it could make LeBron more effective, therefore making the Cavs more effective.

Anyway, I watched 82 games this season+the playoffs+ the NBA Finals. Even though Z was kinda off after the Nets series, he was hitting those jumpers all last year, thats his shot. I don't know what game you've been watching, but Z has hit those shots from 15-18 out all last season.
QUOTE (GrizzFanTaylor @ Jul 13 2007, 09:39 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I think it's best for the Cavs to focus more on bringing in a better option downlow, or shooters. I really wanted Ron Lewis, but sadly, Ferry didn't get him signed up. Anyway, I don't think we need that "Scoring Threat Down-low". Not that we don't need it, but I don't really want it at this moment. Gooden, and Z can both knock down shots. If we do a trade, obviously Gooden is as good as gone. But I wouldn't be worried for the least. All Drew brings us is rebounding. How do some not see it? I don't know. We don't use him at all on offense, and all his points are either on jumpers or put backs from a rebound. You never see this guy having the ball run through him. Yes, I know we have LeBron, but Gooden is talented enough to get the ball down-low and do something with it. I blame Mike Brown on that, but lets not start on Brown. Gooden is the most inconsistent player on the Cavaliers roster. You just have no idea what he is going to bring, he gets scared easily. plays weak defense, and someone his size should be able to average a double-double easily but he doesn't. Of course, we don't run much offense to him but then again, he gets so many offensive boards and such he should be able to get a double-double a night.I'll take Bibby, but the Cavaliers need to work on finding a defensive big to takeover for Gooden. Even though Gooden brought no Defense, it'd help if we got someone who did.

Looks like the Bibby trade talk is off again.
QUOTE

It has been only three days since teams could sign free agents and/or make trades and while the Cavaliers have not made any moves - they have not sat idle, either. The on-again, off-again, on-again trade discussions with the Sacramento Kings about point guard Mike Bibby are off again, according to several sources close to the situation. The deal, according to the sources, would have included Drew Gooden, Damon Jones and a third team. But somewhere between that third team, possibly the San Antonio Spurs , the deal fell through.
http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives..._for_bibby_off/

Yup, it looks like they think Mikkie Moore is better than Drew Gooden or something.. I wonder if a deal gets done, but I doubt it.

I would never trade Gooden for Bibby. Never woulda traded Brian Skinner when we had him. Bleh, whatever the answer is... It's simply not Drew Gooden.
