League sources confirmed the Bulls reached agreement on a two-year contract with Joe Smith late Friday, the veteran forward who had been their No. 1 target in free agency.Financial terms weren't available, but the Bulls had the midlevel salary-cap exception of $5.36 million at their disposal. Joe Smith isnt a bad player, I like this move but we really need to make a push for magloire if we want to win a championship next season.

I'm trying to figure out who's going to get what minutes at PF. They've got Tyrus, Noah, and now Smith. I'm not sure about that...

Yeah, because Jamaal Magloire would put the Bulls over the top. [IMG] The Bulls need a legit low post scoring option. This Smith signing isn't too bad though, he can fill a role similar to what P.J. Brown brought to the table, although Brown is a superior defender.

If you've watched the bulls you'd know that we live and die off eachother. When gordons having a great game, the rest of the team tends to step up. a pace-maker like magloire could really help us not so much individually but by getting those tough baskets when the offense isnt clicking. Also Magloire is a former allstar [IMG] Its possible we can still beat the pistons but its going to be alot tougher now that we still have no low post option. If we can get past the pistons(or have someone else beat them for us) I could easily see the bulls in the finals next year.

I know how the Bulls play, but you must be HIGHLY overrating Magloire. He is nowhere near the post presence you need. He's not even remotely close.

I'm sure that Magloire won't be the permanent post scorer for the Bulls but it is a temporary solution while Tyrus Thomas continues to develop. I don't think the Bulls neccesaraly need Pau Gasol or Kevin Garnett to get to the championship level but someone who can give you a consistent 8-15 points a night. Magloire is capable of that kind of production despite a weak 06-07. Smith, Magloire, and Thomas should be a decent post production and it will improve as Tyrus Thomas ages.

    ---

Just found at Magloire was signed by the Nets, Bulls need to find another 'temporary solution' now or take another path.

The whole concept of having a big man to contend is to get you some easy shots by throwing the ball in the post, the star big men in the league can get you easy post points like that, players like Duncan, KG, Gasol, Amare, Jefferson, Boozer etc. Joe Smith is going to help, but he isnt good enough anymore to be that dominant post scorer like so many championship caliber teams have. Personaly, I dont like the drafts Paxson has had as far as the 4th and 9th picks in the last two drafts. They had the opputunity to get potential post scorers in Hawes and Aldridge. They wouldnt have been good enough right away, but in the future they could be very effective. Bulls are a good team, but theres certain areas that they are weak at. At the 2 spot, you have great scoring coming outve Gordon but the guy is at most 6'3, seems shorter than that, and he doesn do well defensivley against the elite 2guards in the NBA. Like I said above, the Bulls still dont have a scoring big man despite have two lotto picks in the last 2 drafts. I honestly think its best to move Gordon for a good post scorer and sliding Thabo at the 2...who I think is going to turn out to be a very fine player.Signing Joe Smith was a nice pickup, but he isnt going to put them over the hump...although they are on the verge of becoming an elite team not just in the East...but in the NBA.

Um, I don't think Noah can match up against many centers in the NBA. He's way too slim. He'll get knocked around every time.

And Smith can? He's only 6'10, 225 himself... and for the Bulls the 4 and 5 spots are interchangeable, there were times last year when Skiles (as much as I didnt like it) would go with a lineup of Thomas-Nocioni-Deng-Gordon-Kirk.

I don't see Tyrus, Smith, or Noah playing center--that's why I said I think there's a log jam at PF.

Joe Smith is more of a power forward than anything right now. Noah would do better at center than him since Noah played a lot of the 5 at Florida. I think he'll be at the 5; its the Eastern Conference, really...

The centers are bigger, stronger, and at times, more athletics in the NBA. However, I do get your point that it's the Eastern Conference and there's just very little in the department of dominating centers.

Noah wouldn't be allowed to go anywhere near Shaq...
