A small target strategy is the the smart play. Happens regularly here, because voting is compulsory. Keep your mouth shut, and let your opponent implode, then they have to vote for you.
That is a possibility, but there is also a way it could be Senate pro tem. Watched a video on it today. I'll post if I track it down.
I understand that, but if there is no election she technically wouldn't be in office anymore either. It's a weird loophole.
But, there would still be state elections even if Trump somehow stops or postpones the presidential election (which are also all at state level so he can't). So, she would be reelected in California in November and would assume the presidency in January if Trump decided not to leave.
That is fact. It is in the constitution of the United States. The 20th ammendment states that the president's and vice president's terms end unequivocally and automatically January 20th every four years. If he is not reelected by that time he and the vice president do not get to stay in office. Its directly back to civilian life for them, do not pass go, do not collect $200. However, there has to be a president. The speaker of house is next in line and becomes the acting president. President Nancy Pelosi.
There are a lot of things Trump and the republicans could try and I wouldn't put it past them trying those things. But, they won't work.
Assuming California holds an election, she gets reelected, and Dems keep the house. Not saying that any of that is unlikely, it's just a little early to say it's a 100% certainty.
According to that video the Democrat senate Pro Tempore Pat Leahy would become president in the event no elections happened and governors had to fill in the senate seats.
All his lawyers do is look for loopholes 24/7 so Trump can do all his corrupt shit. But, the constitution is explicit and direct.
