    I would never corrupt my artichokes with mayonnaise.

    One left. Waiting for it to get a bit bigger.

    I love taking Artichoke hearts, combining with oil, salt, pepper, Panko bread crumbs, shredded Parmesan in a bowl, mix well (can also add Ponzu sauce). On a shallow tray at 400 deg F. for 20 minutes. Lovely. If you do not like artichoke hearts, you can change with cauliflower florets and add an extra 5 minutes.

    Yum! Man, speaking of root beer, I must have downed over 1,000 gallons of A&W root beer over the years from that little joint across the street from George Rogers Park. It's since been long torn down.

    I remember when they built that one near George Rogers park. When it first opened they had teenage girls on roller skates delivering orders to the cars. They also had freezer chilled glass mugs with hard ice cream and A&W root beer. They had a baby burger, mama burger and daddy burger with yummy fries and onion rings. That was my favorite place to eat. I also liked the Pinafore and the Dairy Maid. Sometimes me and my buddy, Jerry, would drop by the Cove where his grandmother worked and she would give us a free order of fries. Man were they good. Sadly, my buddy, Jerry, taught me to eat fries with lots of ketchup and even more salt. Today it takes all of my will power to leave the ketchup and the salt alone on my fries. Jerry? Well, he is in the pink of health and was even the fleet boxing champion for his weight class when he was in the Navy. Jerry was always a great fighter. His father always taught that disagreements should be settled by putting on boxing gloves. Never my philosophy since I was the smallest boy in my class. Good thing for me that Jerry was my best friend.

    The Pinafore and the Dairy Maid were owned by the former mayor of Oswego who were also the parents of a former good friend of mine when I lived in a different neighborhood, the Needhams. That guy was a little greedy and never gave me anything for free and I never saw him give anything to his son for free. I was just 9 years old when I moved out of that neighborhood.

    I (kinda) remember some, uhhm, dubious times I encountered at the Beachcomber. I worked across the street at the old Thriftway (now Albertson's, I believe) and sometimes would trot over there after a late shift.

    We ordered live lobsters a few months ago, got some New England clam chowder also. They next day ship and it worked out great. It wasn't cheap but it wasn't outrageous either. I need to lean how to cook lobster better and I could use some better crackers but it was fun and we would do it again. If you like that sort of thing I recommend it. There are few services but we used these guys.

    Lobster is delish. I used to deliver to a food cart off 82nd and Flavel area and every couple weeks they’d get lobster Next Day Air in from Maine. I’d stop there for lunch once in awhile. They had a phenomenal lobster roll. Their bisque was really good too.

    Went to Boston in 05’ and felt like I ate a ton of lobster. Haven’t had fresh lobster in a couple years. So damn good.

    My wife is in Florida for the week with her sister and niece. Hence, I'm batchin' it. Gonna go old school today with a tater salad and spatchcock chicken on the grill later this afternoon. Dang, I need to invite my brother-in-love over!!

    Actually, none that were presented! I kinda cobbled it together with ingredients on-hand. Normally, I like to use yukon golds, but had to go with russets. Mayo, a bit of mustard, eggs, celery, green onions, black olives, bacon, dill pickles and a bit of dill relish, celery seed, salt, pepper.

    I would eat that for sure. Black olives are key to a good potato salad imo.

    That was a Thriftway? It was an Albertson's when I was a boy.
    I never used to sell newspapers in the Beachcomber because those patrons were notoriously cheap but I always wanted to go in there which I did when I graduated from college and rented my mother's house on Second street between 'C' and 'D' in Lake Oswego. The place was expensive and never had many customers. I always wondered how the Beachcomber survived as business and now I know.

    1. I remember the Rexall Pharmacy for three reasons:They were there for a very long time;
    2. The first Reeser's Peanut Butter Cup sold in town was sold there and it was my new favorite candy bar;
    3. When Playboy magazine came out us kids use to go there to steal a peek. They were kept on the magazine shelf. We would gab one and hide it inside another magazine like a car, sports or fishing magazine and gawk at the pictures. I loved looking at pictures of naked girls more than I loved fishing or eating candy bars and almost as much as I loved swimming in the lake. They soon wised up to us and started placing them behind the counter so you had to be an adult and ask for one.

    Wow, great recollections! Hey, do you remember that little ice cream store on B. Ave....across from the old Kienow's? I think it was Newton's. My mom and dad took me there all the time! Ahhh.....the good ol' days. *sigh*

    It was called 24 Hours and it was right across for the Safeway when I lived there. It was my favorite treat. My favorite flavor was raspberry ripple.
    I remember Safeway moving to their current location on 'A' Avenue but I don't remember Kienows taking over the old Safeway store. Doesn't mean that I'm denying it and I'll take your word for it. You'd think I would have remembered that since when I graduated from college I lived three blocks away. However, shortly after college graduation I met my wife and got swept up in her (still am).
    Do you remember the Piggly Wiggly grocery store on State Street near 'B' Avenue?

    When I was in my early teens my baseball buds and I would cross the train tresel from Oak Grove and meet up with those Oswego chicks. Was it the State Street theater right on the main drag?
    My wife cousin owned popular restaurant right near that theater on the same side of State, on the lake. Back then Lake Oswego was 3A, 4A being the top of which I played in Putnam. Now they are 5A and LO is 6A.

    I actually dated a girl from Milwaukie and trekked across that trestle numerous times. I loved walking through the tunnel on the Lake Oswego side. There was a big bend in it, so somewhere near the middle it was pitch (and I mean PITCH) black. I'd get a stick before entering so I could guide myself along the track.
