FEMA memo just released says still no real increase in production of PPE. But no problem since health workers can just reuse it and besides cases are going to go way down. Cases in state after state are skyrocketing.

No one wants to over manufacture/inventory unless the demand is there. Just in time mfg is what’s happening.

which is what caused the problems in the first place because "just in time" is actually "five fucking weeks too late". That's the way it was in February, and that's the way it will be if we need that PPE in the fall

We know several that work in hospitals and they contend they are in good shape with PPE now.
It’s only a couple hospitals though.
Having worked for a major mfg I know all about just in time. It is a way to level schedule production so customers don’t have to place & take orders for 6-9 months all at once for volume discounts and most likely end up with huge surplus from year to year.
It was distributors and retailers requesting just in time at same discounts. Nobody wants to take more than they forecast for.
I agree that especially with seasonal products that shipment lead times can be crappy.

Plus the States are very good at purchasing more than they need and stock pilling just so they can get an increased budget next year. Use it or lose it.
No incentive to be efficient only to get more from year to year. So, the fucking States need to take some ownership as well and some do. Plus the they don’t give a shit about ending up with more than they need.

The idea though is to be ahead of the pandemic, not to try and catch up. We tried that initially and it failed and all we have heard is trump blaming Obama for lack of supplies even though he had 3.5 years to restock and be prepared.

Agree it would be nice to stay ahead but everyone needs to pitch in forecast and the money including States, shouldn't have to depend on the FED to meet everyones projections. When it comes to governments there is always a blame game going on those that want to justify their existence. If the State of Oregon can stock pile equipment year after year without use or accountability/audits their emergency services departments can stock pile. I used to deal with emergency services in Salem and you wouldn't believe the inventory stock piled just for budgetary increases from one year to the next.
Governors need to be more proactive in many areas. Plus Oregon could just increase Sate income tax to cover additional inventory as residents here are willing to pay it.
