Sheed, Sabonis and the Towel

Funny hearing Bonzi be all like "hell no!" like he (Rasheed) had no reason to apologize, and then Sheed's like "yeah man, I did. I shouldn't have done it" (tho there might be more to his "apology" in the rest of the show instead of this short clip).

The Look on Sabas face spoke a million words about Wallace. Such a lack of respect for a teammate on National TV.

Speaking of towels, remember Pippen attacking the stack of towels after game 3 or 4 of 2000 WCF?

...anyone else watch the full episode? Is there more to the story :dunno: if not, at least it sounds like Sheed has matured quite a bit since this incident so good on him.

I was always on Sheed’s side. Sabonis flops and pops his Sheed in the mouth. Where is Sabonis’ apology? Sheed was just frustrated.
So that's what it was about; Wallace gets hit inadvertently by a teammate. What a baby! I had always speculated that it was because he was frustrated that Sabonis wasn't more physical with Shaq. That I could respect a little, although how could anyone be more physical the way the refs were calling fouls on Shaq opponents?

What about this?! #BillWaltonBeanieBabyGate

That game was awesome. I wish I had been in the arena. And we won that game. Steve Kerr was on the team too and played well in OT if I recall. I was in Vegas watching on TV. Bonzi was on fire too.

That's dumb - it was a total accident. Sabonis probably didn't even know he'd done it and was completely blindsided by Sheed. I agree with Sheed NOW not Sheed then. There's probably a happy medium between your view and Bill Walton's.
(I didn't know 'Sheed chipped a tooth, though - see that link for details - along with Sabas saying "I will kill him." - that seems to confirm what Bonzi said in the clip)

Rasheed was an hothead asshole, and that towel toss was a prime example
He was a hothead, but never an asshole. As somebody said of Barkley - there are assholes that want you to think they're good guys, and then there are good guys who want you to think they're assholes. Barkley and Sheed were the latter (KG too, I think).

I disagree. He was an asshole because his selfish stupid tantrums hurt his team, over and over and over. Rinse-Repeat. I liked him a lot, at first, but got completely sick of his lack of self-control; was very happy when he was traded

You're discounting all he did to HELP the team. Why is he responsible for his temper but we can discount his ability, his unselfishness and his great defense?

He played with Sabonis, and Brian Grant and Damon and Pippen. Those guys did plenty to help the team too, but they didn't hurt the team as often as Rasheed did

you're free to forgive him for his absolutely crappy level of self-control....I won't. It was ridiculous and inexcusable

try this, go to the main page of basketball reference:

https://www.basketball-reference.com/

in that search box at the top, type in "technical fouls" and see what comes up next....LOL....it's Rasheed

Rasheed isn't a bad dude. He was just a hot head who lacked self control. He did hurt his team. Most likely cost the Blazers a championship. Played right into the referees hands, especially Donaghy.

Sheed was very impassioned about basketball. He loved it. He saw his team getting cheated and he couldn't handle it.

I was sad to see him go. I knew that was the end of Portland's chances for a chip in that era. It was painful to see him win with Detroit, but I was also glad for him to get one. He seemed to control himself a bit better there, but it was a team of bad boys so it didn't matter. He fit in.

I knew Sharif Abdur Rahim would never pan out here. It was nice to have Theo, but the team was gutted and that was that.

That team should have been given another year together. They could have won, but once sheed was gone it was over. It all unfolded from there.

Said it a thousand times. Rasheed Wallace cost this team a Championship. Fuck Rasheed Wallace! Absolute IDIOT!

Bonzi Wells i see isn't any fucking smarter than he was when he played. Another complete IDIOT!

Rasheed Wallace Stooge #1
Bonzi Wells Stooge #2

Sheed was ahead of his time. He knew the refs were betting on games. And he knew that shooting a 3 is more efficient than pounding in the post for 2 even though he was constantly criticized for that.

He knew the Blazers were never going to get a fair shake.

Sure he knew that, but I think another reason he shot more threes was because he was tired of getting fouled inside and it not getting called. That and he loved shooting threes.

Cause he fit in. They were all bad boys. It was their identity.

I think you're thinking of the wrong Pistons. The team Rasheed was on wasn't in any way a "bad boy" team. Chauncy Billups, Ben Wallace, Tayshaun Prince and Richard Hamilton were their other best players and none of them were particularly "bad boy"-ish, especially at that point in their careers.

Ironically, the only "bad boy" team Rasheed Wallace was on was the Blazers in their "Jail Blazers" era.

Wallace didn't ruin the Pistons' chances because he didn't ruin anyone's chances...for both the Pistons and Blazers, he was a tremendous player who made them better.

I read some transcripts about that game 7 and the number one comment from the Lakers was "Rasheed was killing us - we couldn't stop him, and then they stopped going to him"

They drew plenty of Bad Boy references at the time, for obvious locale and grittyness reasons. "Bad" didn't apply to just behavior.

Better go visit those "Transcripts" again.
Wallace got 30 points on 26 shots in 45 mins. People around here punish CJ for stats like that all year long. But lets give him a pass because he was the main attraction and in no way did the Blazers "Quit going to him".
What we can't give him a pass on is 4 rebounds, 1 assist and he got to the line 5 times.
He sulked his way through the end of the game and essentially wilted under pressure . He missed 6 shots in a row from 10 mins left in the game to 3 mins left in the game. After the Blazers lost the lead he did make a shot to tie it again but he quickly folded to Robert Horry and let two huge rebounds get away.

The very last thing anyone can say is "The Blazers Quit Going To Him". He had every chance to control that game but after every miss all he wanted to do was complain and bitch at the refs. We all watched it. He left the Blazers 4 on 5 time and time again.
I know.... I know.... Reality is hard sometimes.

As far as the Pistons are concerned? Really? Who wants to compare being third fiddle on a stacked team to what happened here in Portland when he had just as much talent around him?
