Hey guys, has anyone been watching the summer league games?I've had a chance to watch some of each game on line, and it's pretty cool seeing these younger guys play.JJB is an MVP candidate in this league so far. He's shown a nice ability to run the offense, get some assist, and score at a more surprising rate than I believed. he really does remeind me of a very young Steve Nash, only smaller of course.Rey Terry has shown he's freakish athlete, both offensively and defensively.Brandon Bass has been great. I dind't know much, if anything at all about him, till I watched the games, and in the first half of the game against the Rockets, the guy was incredible. Scoring on dunks, in traffic down low, mid range shots, foul shots, and put backs...plus his defense was supperb. He may have a shot at winning a slot on the team, and he could prove a servicable backup at the PF spot some time in the future.Pops has plays like Pops...shows freakish athletic skills offensively, hasn't shot great IMO, and he's above averag at defense.Fazekas is slow and unathletic...but he has improved with every game, just as I thought, as he gets acclamaited to the speed of the game. I think he'll only get better, but some of these other guys may force the Mavs to keep them instead of him.Sebuites(spelling) has been impressive as well. I know he's going back to Europe most likely, but the kid can play. He's a crafty defender, and can play the PG or SG positions. I see that he has a nice stroke, and is a very good passer from what I've seen.Well all of that is just off the top of my head. Have any of you seen anything so far, or anything different than what I've seen?
I haven't watched any of the games. I do keep up with the stats and read the box scores after each game.JJ seems to be playing pretty good. I like that he is keeping a consistent rate of assists. I like that you brought up Brandon Bass. When Mavs added Brandon Bass to summer league team I was pretty excited. No one else seemed to acknowledge him. SEC Player of the year 2005 I believe. I watched a decent amount of him in college at LSU. A tid bit of information I know about him is he use to play guard all of high school. So when I watched him at LSU he still had that SG offense as a PF, kind of unique. Not sure if he still plays like that. If Mavs were to sign Fazekas and Terry from the rookies. I would rather sign Fazekas and Bass. That's just my opinion though.Don't really have much other input because I haven't watched any of the games
What about Ager Marvin? And I haven't been able to watch any of the games. So whose going to make this squad and whose not if there's a roster squeeze?
Well Ager comes and goes...he's still erratic, but he can score and does some of the other things, go after loose balls, grab rebounds, get's a steal her and there...He's not playing like 1st rounder, but he's shown he can play. He's got to get better shot selection, and hit open shots from what I've seen. And Rok, I'm not exactly sure what the roster looks like.HarrisTerryHowardDirkDiopDampStackhouseGeorge are all locks of course.I think Buckner is still on the team, but I"m not sure. That's 9 that are pretty much on the roster. Let me know if I missed someone obviously, lol. Then you got JJBPopsAgerFazekasBassRey Terry They all have legit shots at making the team. They've all played well, and Fazekas keeps getting better while he hasn't played as well as them.I'm not sure who comes off in a squeeze, and it depends on who get picked up in FA.I think JJB makes the team, unless they pick up a PG. And I think they want Ager and Fazekas to come on too.Rey Terry may make it if they don't pick up another swing player/slasher. And if they don't pick up a guy that plays down low, Bass as a great shot, and Pops does too.It really just depends on how many open slots there are right now, and who they pick up in FA. I think they make another move or two...and that could change this list drastically.
I've been reading other board users on summer league and it looks like Bass is over Pops by a good margin. To where everyone who was on the Pops bandwagon last year to the this summer's first game, have jumped off it and saying he's trade bait. Particularly on his offense, and position where he'd be hardpressed with the defensive centers. Also, his out of control activeness on the court which leads to turnovers and negatives for the team.Barea is a lock it seems, and many think Bass will be. Another many are high on and want to keep is Reyshawn Terry, for his defensive abilities at the swing position. Ager like Pops isn't getting high remarks by posters. They also say he should be traded because he needs to play this year or else it's useless(rookie contract I believe is up). Many think he won't play, hence trade. He still has some posters who feel he has value and needs time.Fazekas is getting the stereotypical bashing, the bust label. Half want him cut, half think he can be an offensive center for us and positives are high IQ, improves every game and his range. So I'd put Barea/Bass as keepers. Terry/Pops on the bubble, Fazekas/Ager probably will be kept by default.I'd like to see Mavs since their interested in Blatche, offer a sign and trade to Wiz grouping Pops/Ager for Andray. Makes room for Bass and Terry.
Hey Rok, I dont' know much about Blatche, I've gotten mix reviews on him as well...do you think he'd be a nice addition or what.As for the rest, yeah I think JJB and Bass are pretty much locks, and I actually want to keep Faz and Ager. I still think Ager can play the 2, maybe even start sometime soon, he shows flashes, and then pulls a "Stack" and has a terrible shooting game and looks sorta dumb...Fazekas just needs time I think. He'll always be slow, but as I watch him, he does tend to get better an better, and eventually I think he'll know how to get his position, and use his smarts to out dual more athletic players for rebounds and positioning.Plus, he'll be a major help if he can knock down his outside shot, something the Mavs sorely lacked last year, especially in the playoffs when NO ONE could hit an open J at all.I'd like the them to keep both Terry and Pops as both have tons of upside and are as athletic as they come...Terry moreso now than Pops, because I can see why they say Terry could become a "Bruce Bowen" type player for the Mavs.

He's young and is starting to get a feel for the game. I think he started a good amount of games for them last year. If we could land him for the MLE, I feel like Diop, he'd contribute. Someone who could come in and backup the 3, 4, and 5 imo. Plus, that's really the kind of player you want to put the MLE on. 50/50 he comes if we do offer, might be a Michael Redd last ditch like effort. Wiz trying to dump salary and then sign Blatche. As of right now, they'd be put over the luxury tax and that's what prohibiting them from giving Blatche the offer he wants. As much as I like the young guys, I can't see them all making it.

If the Mavs were any other team, most of those guys wouldn't only make the team, but also play alot of minutes. But with older guys like Stack, Buckner, and George...there won't be enough minutes.
