Well, I wonder how social workers will respond to violence at the high schools, criminal activity on Max and Gang Violence. I hope the defunding produces a positive result in social justice and addressing serious crime.
Why would social workers respond to violent crime? No one is asking for that. (At least no one with a brain.) Police are now being trained to do mental health evaluations. That's where trained professionals/social workers would be better. PPD has asked for and received increased funding for dealing with the homeless. What are they doing with it? Homelessness looks just as shitty. Are there social programs where the money would be better spent?
They have defunded HS security, Transit police, and Gang units. I get it just send in a regular cop if needed, Im just not sure how that improves anything other than moving the dollars to areas demanded. I may be wrong but I think that specialized units may be better trained than a regular beat cop? If the mayor thinks its the most effective way to address those area's fine, but if he doesn't really feel that way and is just negotiating an out/compromise? We'll see.
