13 years ago today the Blazers drafted 49 year old Greg Oden. only 3 years to go until he can get social security!
And 36 years and change since the Blazers drafted Sam Bowie instead of Michael Jordan. If we’re celebrating draft misery, we ought to get that one in there.
Looks like we had some guards back then who excelled at dishing off to a big man. Didn't really see much of note from Oden.
I can honestly say.....one of the most fun things I've been a part of as not just a Blazer empolyee, but a fan! I just didn't believe what I was seeing! UNREAL!
Man! seems like yesterday. I was like that crowd at my home in Denver. Then came all the workouts, and i had Oden tinted glasses on. Remember some guys on the Blazer Forum were totally on the Durant bandwagon. But all i could see was this dominating, incredibly talented center. Survey says "X"
I remember seeing the interview after Durant had his workout, and I could see the "Eye of the Tiger", driven and focused, in him. Whenever I saw Oden interviewed I didn't see that but his size was impressive. I was hands down Oden selection but I had a feeling Durant was the real deal...
Everyone involved in that debacle have either moved on or passed on. At some point is somebody going to tell the real story of what happened?
I'll never forget the lunchtime rally at the Square the next day - everyone wasn't just excited, we were planning on a dynasty. What an epic disaster.
