Mayors don't really matter when the governor is of an opposing party because the governor supercedes the mayor in decision making. It's the governor with all the power

I should have said major cities. Not states.

    This could be misssleading?

Most large cities are Blue. Most rural areas are red.

Most large cities are having the spikes( and protests) Most suburbs and outlying counties are not having spikes and are typically red.

But what I really think it comes down to is the ones in the city not wearing masks or taking precautions. Are they red? Blu?

I spoke maybe incorrectly when I inferred state by state numbers.

I have not looked at the numbers seriously in over a week now though, because, I just don't know what to trust. Is your graph accurate, or manipulated?

Not accusing, just saying its a real issue on what to trust.

I think it's just cities within the Red states. The governors make the rules. Mayors must follow those rules.

Also places where bars and clubs were opened up early. Miami also where people rushed to the beach, similar to Southern California. Meanwhile, protests were held in many other big cities in blue states (San Francisco, New York, DC, Seattle, etc) and they're not getting destroyed by a recent surge. Because they didn't open everything up immediately.

A few years ago I read The Great Mortality, about the 1918 influenza. There was an anti mask league that held public protests against wearing masks, and I wondered how people could be so dumb.

    Live and learn.

Reminded of those who argue wearing seat belts might actually make accidents worse. They don't.

If you leave your home, wear a mask. It won't destroy your freedom or make your penis fall off, or cause you to vote Democratic. Just prevents spread of disease.

Trump is not going to win a Novel Prize for medicine.

But, the rules the governor makes supercede the rules the mayor makes. The mayor can say everyone needs to wear masks, we are shutting this and that down. The Governor can then say as many of the Republican governors in the highly effected states did nope, everything is open, no masks, etc. The mayor is powerless.

Yes, the protests were dumb vis a vis the virus, but there's a big difference between an oppressed people being moved to anger and people wanting to get their nightlife on. These types of protests and riots were inevitable considering the lack of interest this country shows in protecting the rights of black people, it was just bad luck that it happened during a pandemic.

No, Trump is not going to win any Nobel prizes including the prize for peace for all his important work with Kim Jong-un.

Exactly. There is a big difference between fighting to change a hundreds year old oppression and the arrogant entitlement of not wanting to self quarantine at your comfy home because you are bored or to wear masks/take precautions/social distance because it is inconvenient.
