Great news! Now you can watch the Blazers and get hit with political messages at the same time! https://www.tmz.com/2020/06/30/nba-black-lives-matter-disneyworld-orlando/
Come on, man. I thought you were going to be positive and you're complaining about three letters that stand for three words which represent three quarters of the league. It might not be important to you, but it certainly seems to be very important to the players.
I agree with @Binx , I think this is a good thing for the league to do. You could argue it's not enough, in the sense that the billionaire owners would put their money where their teams mouths are, but at least they aren't back peddling desperately like the NFL is.
The players are free to support any cause they like, but this will be the first time in NBA history that a political message is incorporated into the game.
When was the last time a political message held such a massive weight on our society and day to day lives?
Jeremy Lin is Taiwanese. I'm guessing the NBA would indirectly prohibit any pro-Hong Kong Freedom messages because it will affect their bottom line.
Forgive my ignorance, but aren't Taiwanese folks in favor of Hong Kong being more open? As far as China goes, I think that they still are banning NBA games, but you're probably right that the NBA doesn't want to piss them off more than they already are.
Earl Lloyd would disagree with you. Same with Magic Johnson playing in the 92 All Star Game and the 92 Olympics.
Again, I just don't consider it political, but rather a personal thing for the players. That being said, from your perspective, I get where you're coming from. I just think this is so important, and so pertinent to the bulk of the NBA, I'm completely fine with it. It'll open some eyes and minds.
Black Lives Matter has done more to harm race relations than anything else in the last 50 years. This response to the Floyd killing has been so over the top, and destroyed so many lives and jobs and urban communities that it has erased any good will that existed after the events in Minneapolis.
Sure. No skin off my nose. We already have the national anthem sung at the start of the games, which is a political statement.
