IMHO the gospels of the new testament are not the stories of a long long time ago in a galaxy far far away, but of a snap shot of a particular time and place in our history, testified to by countless individuals who regarded them as facts and further, facts worthy of recording and the need for sharing through out the world.
the gospel of Mark, the first recorded in the new testament is generally accepted by historians to have happened in the year 70AD, only 27 years after the crucifixion of the subject..
IMHO there were far to many eye witnesses to testify to the events recorded for the authors to get away with anything other than the true telling of the events. the historical oral tradition of the culture in Israel relied on the wrote memorization of the laws and history of the people long before the gospels.

The Bible is a collection of supposed accounts made by multiple supposed people and translated to and from multiple languages multiple times...how can anyone be sure to any degree of its accuracy?

For me personally, using someone else's "road map for life" is a no go.

Let me ask you this: if his skin color truly meant "dick," then why did 'Western Civilzation' just so happen to decide that they would present Jesus as white?

No need to preach to me and/or quote scriptures, I'm VERY familiar with The Bible.

I went to church every Sunday from the time I can remember until I was allowed to think for myself and make my own decisions. Again, I don't need someone else's road map.

I'll answer your question with another question...If it could be proven that Jesus was truly either black or white, would it affect your beliefs one way or the other?

My guess is that when the Catholic Church and Greek Orthodox Church commissioned paintings and sculptures of Christ, it was thought a white Christ would appeal more to their flocks than a dark Semitic version would. Racism or marketing? Hard to say for sure.

Certainly heaps of both, in addition to much, much more.

Ergo, why should his skin color be an issue one way or the other?

Personally, it's not an issue for me... I don't care if he were proven to be rainbow-colored & had a horn like a unicorn. I really, truly don't care. Ask the people responsible for creating a blonde haired, blue eyed Jesus. Clearly it meant a li'l more than "dick" to them, otherwise they wouldn't have whitewashed his appearance.

This thread/discussion is going in circles....If it's not an issue to you, why should it be an issue to others?

    You might want to consider the context of who and what I was originally responding to in this thread;

Hey Ive been thinking maybe Im not doing a good job of compartmentalizing the difference between BLM the movement and BLM the organization. Ive said numerous times there is a lot about the movement Im for. Even defunding the police to an extent. Ive heard some arguing for abolishing them completely, not on board with that unless there is some sort of replacement plan for law enforcement / peace officers - though with (a lot) more accountability then they have now. - Giving Black people equity, and equality and not having systems intended to hold them back of course I think those are good ideas. I know that politically many of the objectives of the BLM organization you probably agree with more than I do just because we have different perspectives. Using it as a front to fund Bidens campaign, the fact its a not a charity and a private entity meaning they can do whatever they want with funds, some of that, Im not on board with. I was talking to some Black and a couple Asian friends of mine, some are for whats going on some are against, but I think the point I really took away is the movement itself, empowering black communities, being able to say Black Lives Matter you dont have to be on board with all the political things to recognize that there are very good things coming from the protests and I support many of them.

Sorry if what I said came off as combative or offensive. I do support the movement overall, even if I think some of the political aspects arent really for me.

changing the name of the game is still dumb, and always will be dumb, but it’s gonna happen, so what can you do?

In Europe during medieval or renaissance times artists were commissioned by the church to paint portraits of deities....often they used themselves or whover was around as models to paint from...Da Vinci and Rembrandt and Michaelangelo painted depictions of people using their own face and mirrors to copy...I think it's as simple as that...many of these artists had little exposure to any people who weren't Anglican in feature...see the Sistine Chapel...or the sculptures of David, etc....it's how they painted..I doubt there was a conspiracy about it at all anymore than them depicting God as a man

Utter bullshit. If it didn't mean anything why is he MADE white?

It's a big deal to me because when black people pray, they have to close their eyes and call on a white saviour... built on a lie...

    Imagine that. Being so conditioned....

To borrow a page out of your sphincter tightening playbook of responses, "IDGAF" about what you think. And IDGAF what color Jesus was, and not sure why you do.
