Dang, we're about the same age. Makes ya wonder if we crossed paths as we spent a lot of weekends there. Yeah, LC was a quaint little coast town but growth has made it more commercial now. We use to go to a swimming hole in Taft that was right off the highway.

Very possible. My uncle owned the gas station (and heating company) just south of Sambo’s. So if you ever filled your tank there, we may very well have crossed paths. My cousin owns it all now (though the gas station is now a rental car joint). My uncle and his friends were all in the Red Devils.....and their antics are why the Devils no longer exist. Crazy bunch of guys. It was definitely a more wide open town back then....

I love Victoria. What unique and cool city. I've gone a few times during the 4th of July. It's the perfect time to visit. Not as many people there since they don't support the 4th of July in Canada, lol.

    I bet winters suck.

August is the best, though the first time I took my wife to Canada we hit Vancouver first, without realizing it was a Canadian holiday. What a zoo. But we Once took BC and his then girlfriend up to Victoria the day after Xmas for a few days. The weather was actually decent. Cold and windy, but dry and sunny. Victoria is where the retirees from way the fuck up and beyond in Alberta and Saskatchewan spend their winters. It’s their sunbelt. I guess we’d have to live halfway to the North Pole to appreciate that.......

Tea time at the Empress Hotel is a fun experience.

And that museum there is sooooo impressive for such a small city.

My folks weren’t fond of the Pixie Kitchen. Thought it was mediocre and overpriced. When we ate out it was usually Sambo’s, as the owner was my uncle’s best friend and cohort in mayhem, so we got treated very well. We went out several times when they first started Pixieland and wandered around. All I can remember about it was that a whole lotta people wondered how they were going to make a go of it. Other than that, I don’t remember it ever being up and running. Did it ever run?

My son's best friends raised by a single dad's mom lived in Fanny Bay Vancouver Island on an oyster farm...her boys basically lived in our guest house most weekends and played video games with our son growing up...so our son got to spend two summers on the oyster farm and now has many friends in BC...occasionally visits there...I haven't been up there since I was planting trees in Oregon in my 20s.....beautiful country....great oysters..I had an uncle on the border of Canada in Minnesota who farmed wheat and couple of summers as a kid I helped him harvest time...he took us to Winnepeg where I got hooked on maple candy....Winnepeg was not that beautiful..Iowa was more beautiful where I grew up

Never had fresh oysters from the west coast...wonder how they differ, if at all, from the ones on the east coast/gulf coast?

    Central Oregon
I have lived in Lincoln City, La Grande, Portland area and now central Oregon. For Oregon, this is the best as far as we are concerned. Not to far to the beach or valley, but not as much rain. My BIL lives in Hawaii so we visit often and have no interest in living there.

Smaller and better tasting. Many places you can get a tasting platter with a variety of different regions, and you can see the difference.

    Kushi is generally my favorite
