Do Players really deserve the choice of where they want to go?

At first I was for it but for the last few years I believe this has began to get out of hand. Yes I know these guys are stars but so what? IMO I believe the players should have no say whatso ever where they be traded to because when you think about it that takes away from the GM doing his job his way. This is a rule I think David Stern should make happen or something because it just seems like these players egos get bigger every year. How do we expect teams like Boston, Philly or any other team that have talent and potential to win if they can get 1 more guy, to get better if nobody wants to sign there or be traded there.

Players do deserve the ability to request a trade or not want to go to a certain place. You do have to realize that this is these players lives. They could potentially be moved from their home town of Orlando to Portland. Or if a person is not happy with where he is and his current situation, he should be allowed to take the initiative and request a trade. Also, this should be in General NBA.

Every team goes through this. They win, then they rebuild, win, then rebuild. It's the way the NBA works. Once those teams rebuild they get more appealing and free agents want to sign there. As far as trades go, the player can protest where they want to go as much as they want, but ultimately, it's management's decision. If the GM and the player have a good relationship, they may respect their appeal to be traded to a certain team. Most of the time, that's not the case. If you're the team offering for a player like KG, but you see KG doesn't want to go there, why would you want to trade for him? If he has no desire to be there, he won't play to the best of his ability. The NBA can't control which team a player wants to go to.

They deserve the chance to pick where they want to go when they arent under contract with another team. I personaly dont like players asking for trades unless if its in a Allen Iverson case. As for players like Yi, if your going to enter the NBA, you need to follow the NBA rules, which says you must play for the team you are drafted by. You know that any team can pick you...I just lost all respect for Yi because hes not anymore special than any other player. Its sickening really....

Yi is basically helpless right now until he gets another agent.

If the players has given years of service, and he is politely asking to get traded, then he should have some say in where he is traded. But as Grizzfan said, it's the GM's job to make the trade which is the best option for his particular team. If the trade the player wants doesn't give enough back to the team trading him, they should deny trading the player there. For a guy like Yi, Bucks should purposely trad ehim to an even crappier team and watch him rot. I don't care what pressure is on him, he and his country knew that if he entered the draft, he'd be drafted high, thus going to a crappy team, which usually is a lower market team.

They just suffered from injuries last year. This team can really compete with Redd, Mo Williams, Bogut, and Charlie V. They are a very good offensive team, just lacking defense, which is why I keep saying, they should have drafted Brewer or Noah. This team can make the playoffs though I feel.

It has enough of a future to be excited to play for, though.

They can pull him out and fully commit him to their national team if they see his situation in America isn't up to their interests. Same thing that happened to Wang ZhiZhi; the government allowed him to play for the Mavs under the stipulation that he would come back any time during the season when the national team called for him. When they needed him, he decided not to go and signed a deal with LA. For this, he was tossed off the national team and called a traitor. Just last year he was allowed back on after apologizing. This whole Yi situation has the potential to be just like this. Even if he gets another agent, the government will just threaten him and won't allow him to return until he apologizes and begs. China controls him and whatever Chinese-native agent he signs.

The best solution would be to do sort of what the MLB does and creae a rule where you need to be with a team at a certain benchmark to have any weight in trades. "If a player has been on an active major league roster for ten full seasons and on one team for the last five, he may not be traded to another team without his consent. Manny Ramirez is an example. He has been on a major league roster since 1995 without interuption, and has been playing with the Red Sox since the begining of the 2001 season. While there is not a no-trade clause in his contract, one is implied because of his 10-5 status."

I think that there should be two sides to it. While I think players have their right to say "F*ck that I don't want to play there", they also need to be able to bite the bullet. For example:If Paul Pierce said "I don't want to go to _____ team." I think it'd be alright for the Celtics to comply with his demands. If Sebastian Telfair said " I don't want to go to _____ team." I think it'd be alright for the Celtics to say F*ck you Bassy. There won't ever be rules for this, but I think it should just be an unwritten code of conduct for the executives and players. If a player has done his time in his contract and wants out before its up, and has been very beneficial for the team, the community, and has been a class act, stand out player, then I think said player has the right to say "hey, I don't want to go there." Obviously teams don't have to do what the players say, but like I said, I do think that if a player falls into said standards, then I think it's ok for them to say, "hey, look, I don't wanna play there."

That wont hold up. 90% of the nba isnt stars, if you want to give special rights to stars, im sure that 90% would stage another lockout.

Pierce has been a class act in this organization and in the city of Boston for years, so I think if he were to say he didn't want to go somewhere, I think the Celtics FO should oblige or at least strongly consider it. Telfair has done nothing for the organization, and has ran into trouble with the law, so its exactly the opposite for him. I'm in no way saying that role players shouldn't have (in this case that I'm using right now) the priviledges that Pierce has. If a role player has played somewhere for a while and decides he wants to move on and start fresh, and he was great for the organization, a class act on and off the court, then I think its perfectly alright for him to say I don't want to go here. Now if someone says they don't want to go somewhere and present a list of 20 of the teams in the league of which they don't want to go to, thats a different story. As long as a player benefits a franchise on and off the court, for a decent amount of time, I think they should be able to say that they don't want to go to a certain team if they don't want to.

Doesn't make much since since you would think teams would want value for everybody that leaves, but that is what a lot of GM's do.

Such as Allen Iverson, when he told Philly he'd like to go to Denver, they made it happen. Either way, it's rare that players get their wishes to goto whatever team they want.</span>

I don't know a whole lot on this story, but to be honest, Fegan could be telling Yi they have a deal in the works with the Bucks, while really, they're trying to get Yi traded. But, because Yi can't speak face to face with the organization without a translator, he may not know that. But, I could be wrong. I think Fegan is taking advantage of Yi. I remember reading an article of an interview with Yi, and he seemed excited to play in Milwaulkee.
