Fox had high ratings because Trumpers watch it. Overall ratings were dismal

Nikki Haley talked about taking down Confederate flag after white supremacist massacre at Mother Emanuel church, then Don Jr. rants about preserving Confederate monuments.

 

The difference is one is in charge of making laws that effect ourselves, friends, families, communities.
They both make us feel hopeless though so you might be right.

You're right, voting for ballot measures and such isn't sitting out. Voting third party--well, we'd probably have to agree to disagree on that, we've had that discussion before. It's not literally sitting out, but it's sitting out on who will actual use the levers of power. But again, if you see both parties as irredeemably corrupt and that none of their differences on policy will impact things you care about, I understand it.

 

Herein lies my problem, and is why I don't post overly often. I watch it happen all over the internet, by both parties supporters. People accuse another poster of bias, or whatever, in their post/reply. This automatically shuts their ears to the remainder of your message (at least it does for me). Worse, I watch as both parties take "pot shots" at each other. This is why American politics have become such a mess to even try to "debate". Too many accusations out of a "belief" rather than debate over the subject matter at hand.

I don't mean to "trigger" other posters. But people don't seem to quite understand how, they themselves, make themselves problematic to the conversation. Having aspergers, it confuses me when I get accused of stuff for little, to no reason. I already struggle with social interaction as it is. I don't take it personally though, I understand: we people don't always see our own flaws very well.

I know people don't mean to be this way. It has just become too much ingrained in our American politics.

(just my thoughts so that others might understand a bit better. I will leave it here, as this is not debatable) Take it easy.

(Edit: One last thought. Do we accuse each other of being biased... when we agree with each other? (I don't need nor want a reply))

Im sooo tired of being accused of as part of the problem because i dont happen to agree with certain opinions of which some people consider thier opinions to be facts.
I think this is another big issue. Some people are so rigid with those opinions that they are quick to demean anyone who disagrees with their stance, Completely mixing up fact from opinion.
And the worst part of it is many of these people think its the opposite and they arent this way. That the other person is just bias.
There are soo many double standards floating aRound, its spiraling us into a cesspool of pot shots instead of intelligent debate.

the foundation of debate these days seems to be about how bad you can make the other person look with thier opinions.
Debating should be about helping each other to understand each others stance in hopes of finding common ground to build upon.
To me, its crazy how many people think they debate intellectually and are oblivious to how condescending and demeaning they are to the opposition. And then when treated the same in response, how many of these people cry when the style of debate is returned in kind.
Its made wanting actual intelligent respectful debate laughable and near impossible.

 

GOP convention speaker's video pulled after tweet sharing conspiracy theory

A woman who was slated to speak Tuesday night at the Republican National Convention was pulled from the lineup shortly before her scheduled slot after she posted about an anti-Semitic conspiracy theory earlier in the day.

Mary Ann Mendoza, who was expected to praise Trump for his crackdown on the border and support of law enforcement, will no longer appear at the convention, the Trump campaign confirmed.

"We have removed the scheduled video from the convention lineup and it will no longer run this week," communications director Tim Murtaugh said in a statement.

Mike Pompeo told all State Department employees they may not participate in any campaigning. He is speaking to RNC from the roof of the Kind David hotel in Jerusalem. No secretary of state has ever spoken to party convention before.

 

I accuse myself of bias all the time. I never exclude myself from it, or those I agree with. I think bias is just something we all tend to have to some degree. If I accuse you or anyone of having it, its never meant as a shot, just as something people need to understand. I think most importantly understanding it about ourselves is important for recognizing there are flaws in how we think.

 

I'm watching the speeches on youtube and unlike the democratic convention...this one has removed the comments section and made the chat "invite only".....dems didn't do that for their speeches

I enjoyed Nick Sandmann's little piece. Dude may very well become a billionaire stemming from all the media faux pas. He's already received a sizable settlement from CNN and also settled with the Washington Post. Good for him.

 

Dictionary definition:

Maybe it is my literal thinking. But under this definition, I must feel prejudice against one thing, person, or group.

I don't feel any prejudice, therefore I must be seeing things fairly clearly.

(On another side note: Everyone is made up of about 97% stardust. It makes me wonder what all of those ancient star particles have against each other.)

 

The wrong definition IMO. Edit: I should say it more like it's not the definition I typically use when thinking of or talking about it.

Bias is not always negative, you have an inclination towards one person (maybe even yourself), and you in the general sense not just you specifically.

I tend to think of bias in the sense of there are people that I'm more inclined to trust than others, which forms my beliefs because who we trust to tell us the truth is how most of us make informed opinions. That we form 'biases' towards against certain news outlets, certain journalists. Aspergers or not, I think we would agree that our judgment is fallible.

 

And I against pets, except cats I really miss my childhood cat.
