Fauci says Pence listens to him even though he's 'the skunk at the picnic'

Vice President Pence was praised by Anthony Fauci, the nation's top infectious diseases expert, for his willingness to listen to the latter's dire warnings about the scope of the U.S.'s COVID-19 outbreak in an interview published Monday.

Answering emailed questions from The Washington Post, Fauci told the newspaper that Pence was doing his best to serve in his new role as head of the White House's coronavirus task force, on which Fauci, the nation's top infectious disease expert, is a member.

“I am sometimes referred to as ‘the skunk at the picnic’ but Pence never directly asks me, the skunk, to be quiet or leave,” said Fauci in response to the questions, adding that Pence was "a truly decent person, and very smart, who is trying to do his best in a very difficult and fluid situation."

“Some may say that Pence and his team are ‘too ideological’ but they are after all political people. This is not unexpected," Fauci added, according to the Post.
Fauci's praise for Pence comes amid criticism aimed at the Trump administration, particularly President Trump, over the U.S.'s response to the coronavirus outbreak and the effectiveness of the U.S.'s response so far. The U.S. has reported more total confirmed cases than any country, and ranks fourth behind several South American countries in terms of total deaths per 100,000 citizens.

Residents on O‘ahu will be restricted to their homes for two weeks beginning Thursday at midnight.

Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell announced the county’s new stay-at-home order Tuesday, citing the widespread prevalence of COVID-19 on that island, where thousands of new cases have been identified in August.
    https://bigislandnow.com/2020/08/25/stay-at-home-order-returning-to-oahu/

While the order is in place, essential state and county services will continue.

People who work in healthcare, grocery stores, pharmacies, banks and other financial services, food production and farming, public and private schools, restaurants offering takeout services, hotels and motels, construction and essential government functions will be allowed to move freely for work.

Yesterday a man who got infected early on in Jan in Hong Kong and was supposedly cured contracted the virus again traveling in Italy....there was a reinfection case reported in China before that...Chinese believe this virus mutates slowly but does mutate and hides within vital organs ....Mexican scientists linked Coca Cola drinking overweight issues to death from the virus....sugar in general...the virus loves soda pop drinkers apparently or people with high sugar content in their diet

Shit, I've got a sweet tooth and drink about four or five root beers every week. I also drink a near frozen Starbuck's frappuccino nearly every day. Did I mention that I'm overweight?
However, I finally have some good news about my dietary restriction on drinking coca cola, I'm to have none whatsoever. I've had one coke in the last six years.

CDC was pressured 'from the top down' to change coronavirus testing guidance, official says

(CNN) A sudden change in federal guidelines on coronavirus testing came this week as a result of pressure from the upper ranks of the Trump administration, a federal health official close to the process tells CNN.

"It's coming from the top down," the official said of the new directive from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The new guidelines raise the bar on who should get tested, advising that some people without symptoms probably don't need it -- even if they've been in close contact with an infected person.

Previously, the CDC said viral testing was appropriate for people with recent or suspected exposure, even if they were asymptomatic.

CDC would not comment on questions about its own policy change. A CDC spokesperson referred all questions to the Department of Health and Human Services.

In a statement to CNN, HHS Assistant Secretary Brett Giroir said: "This Guidance has been updated to reflect current evidence and best public health practices, and to further emphasize using CDC-approved prevention strategies to protect yourself, your family, and the most vulnerable of all ages."
