the magic signed marcin gortat and he will be on the team.and they will not waive james augustine.only some of his contract is guaranteed ,so they could wave him by august 1st.but they wont waive him.
Once of these two guys, if not one then both, are going to have to step up and take on a big role with this team. With both Milicic and Outlaw gone now, that leaves us with only Battie and Howard in the post, both are starters. They are going to need a rest throughout the game, especially Battie who is getting up there in age. So these two guys are going to prove to be very needed this upcoming season in playing solid bench minutes.Marcin Gortat needs to work on getting better touch in the post, better foot work, and better moves offensively. He turns the ball over alot, especially in summer league. Defensively, he needs to know when to go for the block, and when it will get him a foul. He also needs to work on going straight up a bit more, instead of trying to swat all the time. He is known to pick up fouls. Other than that, he is a decent defensive player, and a tough rebounder.Augustine has decent moves in the post, not spectacular, but they will get the job done. He has decent rebounding, but his post defense needs some work. If he can improve that area, as well as improve his decision making he will be golden. This is the place that willl provide the most interest. The backup big men, and how they perform will determin alot in how well we do this year.
I like Augustine, I loved watching him at Illinois. I think he can turn into a Tony Battie type of player with his defensive abilities and toughness. Assuming he gets playing time, I think Magic fans will be pretty happy with him.
