OK, those were adjunct thoughts, but that still "really" have nothing to do with my initial ideas. I think they can stand on themselves.
abm's choice in promotion of grass roots organizing and direct participation in the decisions and implementation of community reforms has more than just a little merit. it is an opportunity to affirm that their own lives matter. neither governments, big corporations nor institutions have all the answers or resources to truly implement the meaningful change necessary to address all of the problems that have been created through the existence of systemic racism. while all levels of government have a critical role in addressing the issue, the actual residents of these communities that have been negatively impacted will need to be the ones that encourage the participation of their neighbors. this is what i believe to be what grass roots community participation to mean.
Political cartoon from 1967. The same types of people who oppose BLM because of the violence largely unrelated to them are the people who would have opposed Martin Luther King Jr's movement in the 1960s because of the violence largely unrelated to him and his movement. People always find reasons to oppose social change they're not interested in.
My woman told me to watch this and I'm like, fuck Doc Rivers. But then I did and yes, it was very good.
I heard a good argument made the other day. It's weird how many people will stand up to defend the mistreatment of POC, when they also claim they are for equality. You rarely, if ever, hear people defending the cops when they shoot or kill a white person who was being arrested...but you always hear those same people defending the cops "Blue Lives matter" etc, when the same thing happened to a POC. You're telling me that POC are more inclined to have warrants, act disrespectfully, or defiantly (etc) justifying the response from the police, than that of white people? And if you believe that, why do you believe that?
Black children are introduced to "that" conversation at a young age where they are carefully told how to respond to the police in a very care and extra extra respectful manner. Some people get sick and tired of that bullshit and wind up dead the victims of target practice.
