Just curious. I haven't paid for the Oregonian since I dropped home delivery probably 10 years ago. I've always felt that I got enough local news from their free OregonLive site plus local TV news. Lately, they've been pretty aggressively seeking subscribers as they're getting pinched for revenue. It looks to me like they're going to change their sports coverage to make more of it available only to subscribers. What do you say, is it worth the ten bucks a month?
I'll leave it up to a mod as to whether this should be moved to the OT. I put it here because OregonLive has been a pretty consistent source of Blazers news and it looks like that's changing.
It's a trash paper. I stopped supporting it years ago. It's sad though, the internet is slowly killing off all truly local news.
no...and I have adblock on when I go to the site. Sometimes I have to refresh the page 3 times so I can get to the option of reading without turning adblock off they are locking more and more articles behind a "subscriber" pay wall. That actually makes me less likely to subscribe. But frankly, their content is not strong enough to pay for
I'm the lone holdout it looks like. As my avatar says, I'm old school. And also, writing/print is my business. But it's a very mediocre paper, especially since they went to this stupid new format that makes me undo the sections of the paper. Hate that. That said, it's a tough time to be in the news business.
No. It's a scam. The paper isn't good. It's a pain to subscribe. It's a pain to unsubscribe or change your subscription. I'd still be subscribed to them in one form or another if the subscription was more like Netflix, etc. Add, stop, pause, or change subscription on an easy to access website. Instead you have to call a number during their hours on weekdays, and they'll still make it a PIA.
I would buy a paper at Starbucks before I went to work. Haven’t done that since the pandemic though. I love reading the paper while I’m taking a dump.
Delivered both the O and the Journal back in the day, subscribed for decades, but dropped it when they went to less than 7 days/week. I do miss it, but it aint coming back. barfo
Hell no. I got a free subscription to The Athletic through T-Mobile for a year. That will do even if I have to read @THE HCP's favorite journalist.
Sports blogs have been far better news sources as they usually post the paid content, or at least as much to get the point across. Bye bye oregonian.
