Hey man, it would take us from pretender to contender and I'm all for that... KAT specifically is far more complementary to Dame's game and Russell has better size and athleticism to defend the perimeter, especially at the 2.

I mean if Wood is leaving that actually might be enough but he's not going to sign for Zach's salary otherwise we could just fit him into the MLE and forget about a sign and trade altogether. It would probably be worth it if we did Zach and Ariza but that would leave us with a need at both backup post and starting SF. I guess maybe Wenyen could be the backup 4, we could use the BAE for a backup 5 (maybe Nerlens Noel) and the full MLE for Derrick Jones Jr. at starting 3?

Then our rotation would look something like Dame, CJ, Jones, Wood, Nurk, Gary, Hoodie, Noel, Nas, Wenyen

This trade make total since, for CJ.
Let him have his own team where he can star, THE KNICKS! Perfect fit for the guy and he's into media, a big market team is perfect for him.
They get CJ and we get Julius Randle & Elfrid Payton.
Gives us a banging scorer down low and a decent defender at 2 backing up Trent and/or Hood.

CJ for Randle and Payton? That's terrible.

CJ is a far better player than either of them.

By far. And am absolutely certain his value is seen as such around the league. Just because people in here have tired of him doesn't mean thats the league wide perception of him.

Because Julius Randle is horrible. Hes a bad shooter, inefficient scorer, and a worse defender than C.J... Payton is horrible and doesnt do anything well.

OK, do you think CJ would be a good fit in NY a major market where he could better establish his brand.

Random trade note I personally forgot about. When looking for trades, I've been operating under this past season where we are a tax team, could take 125% +100k in trade. But next year, we'd be under the tax. As such, for some trades, the rules differ:

    Non-Taxpaying Teams
    Outgoing salary Maximum incoming salary
$0 to $6,533,333 175% of the outgoing salary, plus $100,0005
$6,533,334 to $19.6 million The outgoing salary plus $5 million5
$19.6 million and up 125% of the outgoing salary, plus $100,000

Caveat being we have to still be under the tax after the trade.

So for example, Hood , above the tax, can bring back 7.5 million. Hood under the tax can bring back 10.6

    Anyways...

And that’s not even the worst part about randle. He fit poorly on this team and especially next to Nurkic

Seriously for the sake of what CJ is doing he can do it from anywhere. Being an NBA player gives him a platform. The two biggest NBA broadcasting personalities are Charles Barkley and Jalen Rose... those guys did not spend the majority of their playing careers in LA or NYC. Kenny Smith didn't, Chris Webber didn't, Reggie Miller didn't, Mark Jackson didn't and the list goes on and on. I do think the Knicks should want CJ, NYC might benefit CJ's brand a little but his personality and game would play well in NYC for the Knicks but they don't have shit to give us for him.

I think that Randle could be functional at PF but he'd likely need a Jarrett Allen type of C... or Anthony Davis next to him, he did really well when playing with him. Payton can defend well and bring the ball up the floor and that it. So I think we could get more for CJ. I actually think that the deal I've been talking about since we got bounced from the playoffs is a good one @BonesJones doesn't like my deal either.

    CJ and Ariza

    for

Josh Richardson, Tobias Harris and Philly's 21st pick in this year's draft.

I like this trade because Harris gets buckets and is very athletic at the 4, Richardson is a great three and D wing and we get a pick. A rotation of Dame, Gary, Richardson, Harris, Nurk, Zach, Hoodie, MLE PG (Clarkson or Dunn), BAE big (Noel) and Nas or Wenyen would be better than what we're about to roll out there without a trade. We would have a much much better perimeter defense and our interior defense wouldn't struggle. I realize we wouldn't have as many iso options as we had last season but I believe that would be good for our offense, not bad but for those of you who ask, "Who else can get their own shot besides Dame?" I answer go watch some tape on Harris and even Richardson. Harris really can score very well and does so the way he should. He hits open threes when someone sets him up with one, he slashes without the ball and gets good looks at the hole off of assists, he slashes with the ball and gets easy baskets and he can pull up off the dribble... he also plays good defense especially at the 4. Richardson's play making abilities are more limited but he can get his own shot in a pinch but more so the guy hits open threes and plays lock down perimeter D and that's what we'll need from him. Also both guys can play two positions Richardson 3 and 2 and Harris 4 and 3. They along with Gary would cause these things called turnovers which would lead to these other things called fast break or transition points that we aren't too familiar with. We would also have two picks to either get two prospects with maybe Poku at 16 and Scrubbs at 21, trade up to get a better guy in the mid lottery or trade out and try to get a pick or two in next year's loaded draft.

If he cares more about that than winning, yes.

    that's true

one caveat, IIRC: teams still have to be below the tax (or is it apron?) after the trade
