Jaden McDaniels said he's worked out for two teams, one being Portland.

That makes him only the second known guy that’s worked out for the team.

 

I think he's going to drop like a rock and end up ~pick 40. He's one I want Portland to avoid.

 

I’m hoping for one of Poku/McDaniels at 16 (although unlike past years there really isn’t anyone I’m actively against selecting) and a trade up for Scrubb sometime in the second. That would be ideal for me. Take swings on upside. Use free agency to fill more immediate needs.

 

Give me Josh Green in the first and Robert Woodard in the second and I might scream like a little girl. But I'd never admit to it.
Very similar styles that would fit PERFECTLY on this team. Both can handle the ball well enough to create for themselves and others. Both have simple, repeatable jump shots. Both can score in the midrange which is a dying art. And both bring tremendous defensive intensity and strong rebounding. I think they both kind of resemble Trent, but I think that's exactly the style we need next to Dame and CJ.

Plus, they would both bring an athleticism we haven't had for a while. Other than Dame, we haven't had anyone that's gonna bring down the roof with a big dunk and both of these guys would. Sign me up for these two.

man it feels like I’m saying “I like him” a lot this year. This is an underrated draft class. I usually don’t have to go out of my way to shit on someone.

 

This is a balanced draft class. Not a lot of superstars, but I think a lot of guys who can be contributors for a few years if they get into the right systems. Will they be quality starters? Maybe 4th or 5th options or head up your bench.

 

Almost all of those guys used to play against elite competition at All-American level invitationals and AAU, the Euros had film from Nike Hoop Summit and Euroleague junior all star events. Guys that get drafted out of second division Euro in the first round are usually freakish upside guys, that's not Scrubb. Also outside of this year every draft in the modern era has had a combine where these unknowns get some time against known commodities. So if a freak with a ridiculous ceiling is there like Poku and we draft a guy like Scrubb who is a maybe to be a really decent role player, I'll be incredibly pissed. The weird thing about Scrubb is that making an NBA team is such an over-achievement for the guy that he's being overrated on that out performance of expectation instead of just a straight evaluation of what he is going to be. If you could pinpoint one elite thing about the guy maybe I would be a little higher on him.

 

See, I don't mind trading up to the top of the second or even the end of the first for Scrubb, I'll just be pissed if we take him at 16 with so many guys with a higher upside than him there. Getting Poku and Scrubb without giving up too much in the future, is ideal when considering Neil being so high on Scrubb.

 

I really don't get this. Scrubb was invited to the tryout for the USA U-19 team. Watch the highlights on YouTube and tell me he isn't a freakish athlete. He was recruited by Louisville, one of the best programs in the country, despite not having the grades to qualify.

I can see calling Scrubb a reach at 16, but I'm seeing some posts that make me think people think he's garbage because they never heard of him before. I think he slots very reasonably anywhere from about 22 to 40 and I had seen early mocks that speculated he could go in the teens. He's not a 7-footer who handles the ball like a guard but he's probably got a better chance to stick on an NBA roster for a few years than Poku, too.

I agree with everything you said, I have already said that if we did a trade with Philly that among other things got us the 21st pick I'd be willing to use it on Scrubb. I want to swing for the fences with #16 and Scrubb just isn't that. His ceiling isn't that high, he has a higher floor than Poku for sure but prospects' floors are obviously not what I'm worried about in this draft. I've watched a ton of film on Scrubb and he is athletic but not an elite athlete like Edwards or something. The guy has a chance to be good in the NBA, even start on a playoff team but he doesn't have star potential IMO.

 

Reminds me of a shooting guard version of Darius Bazely.

I don't think there are a lot of guys with star potential in this draft. If you were asking me who had a better chance of becoming a star out of Jay Scrubb or Aaron Nesmith in 4 years, I'd say Scrubb. If you ask me who had the better chance of finding a niche and being a contributor on a rotation for a playoff team, I'd say Nesmith.

Scrubb is like Saddiq Bey in some ways in that he's a guy that is good all-around but it's hard to find anything at which he's elite. Could eventually develop. He's got more athletic upside than Bey, but Bey's gotten great college coaching and played against NBA level players every game for a couple of years.

 

Two types of people: ones that will look at Scrubb and think “JUCO?? The fuck?” And others that will look at Scrubb and think “JUCO?? There hasn’t been anyone drafted outta there in like 20 years, he must be special.”

 

I’ve seen enough video of this Poku guy to know I’d like to stay away.

Yeah, between all of those wings, I don't really know who will end up the best, I do know that Scrubb due to his past performance and all of the unknowns has the lowest floor but I don't want any of those guys, in fact I only want us to draft something we don't have at 16, either a bigger guard who can run an offense or Poku... mostly Poku.

 

I dare anyone to get more than 3 of the top 10 picks correct.
