What players are out there that would: Are within the $7,000,000 TPE space Would be worth acquiring and be a contributor Would garner a Draft pick for taking on salary w/o sending any back? Boston comes to mind just because they have 3 1st round picks. But there have to be other options, yes?
Holy shit, I'm going to be the first person to post Nemanja Bjelica, there are so many in here that can't stop talking about getting this guy with the TPE it's a bit crazy but it's not a crazy idea at all.
Philly's way over the tax line. Think they'd part with 32-year-old PF Mike Scott solely for the tax savings?
Bjelica yes - a good get IMO, and there was a post somewhere today about Kanter (maybe a pick?) from Boston to help reduce their lux tax assuming they don't make a different/major move
if they want to get off salary, Darius Miller from N.O., Ilyasova or Jabari Parker from Sacramento, Ed Davis from Utah, Mike Scott, Kanter, Looney, Reggie Bullock. None are guys you fight to get, but if they paid us...
Honestly, there aren't many. How many teams will pay (give you a draft pick) to give up a good player (a contributor)? The only time that would occur is if the team is fighting the Lux Tax. Boston (Kanter) and Philly (Scott) are really the only candidates. Bjelica would be awesome. However, Portland would have to give the Kings something to get him. Bjelica's contract is non-guaranteed - so if the only motivation was to save money (or a roster spot), Kings would just cut him and walk away. If they are contemplating that, then a 2nd and a TPE might be enough value to get him from the Kings.
Nope. The actual number is slightly above $7M. ($7,069,662 + $100k). Anything less than $7.1M, the Blazers can acquire.
Here's some details on Player Trade Exceptions: - Teams cannot use trade exceptions to sign free agents. - Trade exceptions are never traded from one team to another. - Teams cannot combine trade exceptions with other exceptions in order to trade for a more expensive player. - Players can be traded together as long as the outgoing salaries are not aggregated. - Teams can consume only part of a trade exception, in which case they can use the remainder in a future trade. - Teams that are under the cap when initiating a trade cannot receive a trade exception, even if they end up over the cap as a result of the trade.
For those oldie, but goodies in here: MLE, BAE, Rescue Aid Socie-et-ee. Blazer Fans High, Reach for Sky, 7 Million Dollar Teeeee-eeee.
It depends upon what else they are doing. They are likely to be in the Lux Tax. If they can unload Kanter, without taking salary back - they could save ~$10-$12M in payroll & tax. Is Kanter (who is man #9 or #10 in minutes played) worth paying $10-$12M to Boston? If not, it makes sense for them to dump his contract and replace him with a different C at vet min.
