I doubt Millsap is looking for a lengthy deal. Plus we’re acting like he’s Gaso’s age. He’s never relied on a ton of athleticism and I doubt we’d be paying him over market value.
Why do you hate the idea of Milsap in Portland --- let's ONE see if it becomes true -- next how much for cause if not the full MLE then it's a steal but if it's the full then ya not sure he worth that at his age.
That's nice for other teams but if we re-sign Hood we will have Dame, CJ, RoCo, Zach, Nurk, Gary, Hood, MLE which may be two players, BAE, Rio, Wenyen on early bird exception, Nas, Ant, Elleby, Hoard and Brown... so maybe we'll see one or two of those guys in this abbreviated training camp but also maybe not.
I'm probably missing players but, I'm seeing about 109M for 9 players right now. So then, I guess 110M with Ellerby 5 more players? MLE - so it sounds like Millsap if rumors are true. I'm not against that, not in love with it either. Depends on who else signs for what Millsap signs for. I hope either he signs for less than the full-MLE or it's a 1 year deal, 2 years at most. Ideally, he'd leave enough of the MLE to sign another FA. BAE - 3.6M is enough to add a decent player. with a 141M apron, hard-capping isn't an issue, even if they use the TPE and there are the FA's Whiteside, Hood, Melo, Gabriel, Hoard. I'd be ok with none of them returning (especially Melo) although I wouldn't mind seeing Gabriel again. Hood is toough because it's realistic to be pessimistic about his injury and recovery but the Blazers can not go into the season with Nurkic and Zach being the only two C's and real bigs. That's especially true because expecting both to be healthy all year seems pretty iffy
So we see that there is a good chance that we use some if not all of the MLE on Millsap. Another possibility that someone on here was discussing is if the Pistons buy out Ariza we would use some if not all of the MLE on him instead. If it goes either of those two ways I think Zach is going to have to come in much more polished than we last saw him in order to win the other starting forward spot next to RoCo. I actually like a rotation of Dame, Gary (I know this will never happen), Ariza, RoCo, Nurk, CJ, Zach, Hood and Nas the most. More likely and me being realistic the rotation will be Dame, CJ, RoCo, Millsap, Nurk, Gary, Zach, Hood and whoever out of BAE, Rio, Nas, Ant and Wenyen can win over Stotts and I imagine that will change throughout the season unless we get a real steal with the BAE. One thing I just thought of is that if Hood comes back and is as good as he was before injury, there is a real chance that he could win that starting spot and we could see Dame, CJ, Hood, RoCo, Nurk, Millsap, Gary, Zach and whoever stands out from those other guys.
A few interesting possibilities exist looking at UFA centers. Does Jahlil Okafor command more than the minimum? How much does Nerlens Noel go for? Is anyone still interested in Kyle O'Quinn? Is Alex Len an unsalvageable bust?
I want Millsap and Cousins, but they aren’t the only ones I’d be happy with. Hopefully Olshey doesn’t do dumb shit, free agency is where I trust him the least.
Len has a mean streak. He does not back down. Not great but I wouldn't mind him as a backup. I bet he would come cheap Nerlens looked pretty good last year. I bet he gets the MLE
So in your scenario if you don't want any of those other guys back except Wenyen and we do use the MLE and considering his previous salary it would take the entire MLE to get Millsap who started all but three games he played in last season for the very successful Nuggets. We could take care of your one problem of not having enough centers (even though in today's NBA I think a big man rotation of Nurk, Millsap and Zach with spot minutes from Wenyen is enough) with the BAE by signing Nerlens Noel. So now we have 13 players under contract and then we can just pick whoever the best two free agent D-Leaguers available to fill the last two spots on two way contracts. Maybe we can have one other player but I don't think so, if we can some in here have mentioned Evan Turner on a vet min or even MCW on the vet min.
If Portland signs Ellebe to a two way they’ll have 6 roster openings. 4 if Hood and Gabriel return. That should allow Portland to stock up for a run.
