The PF position is sure weak as hell right now

Looking around the league.... there just aren't many good power forwards right now. Not like in the 2000s.

Think about the late 90s and 2000s. I remember when ZBO and Sheed were putting up really good numbers and not making Allstar teams.

It sure seems like the number of really good power forwards, or even young promising power forwards, is really slim. I was trying to find someone that I thought would be a good trade target but I'm just not seeing it.

Whiteside has to be a sign & trade to bring in a PF. Aldridge seems like an option. Personally, I was never an Aldridge fan; never thought he was aggressive or serious enough. But he’s got another year in him and if “win now” is our aim....then it’s a decent way to go.

Yeah, not a lot of 2 way PFs. It used to be that team looked for "3 and D" guys at SG and SF. Now they want them at PF too. Not many of them have the lateral quickness to guard players out on the perimeter.

I don't think LMA is a PF anymore.

And that's really my point. There aren't very many star power forwards in the league anymore. Not like in the old days.

    Anthony Davis
    Giannis

Who else? Blake? Love? Taytum? There are a bunch of guys that are past their prime. Aaron Gordon?

Wings are the new power forwards.

I said it in a different thread, but the league really is ball handlers, wings and bigs. And more often than not, teams go 1-3-1, or 2-2-1 with it

Bums me out man. I loved growing up with guys like Garnett, Duncan, Dirk, McDyess. Sheed. Such a fun time to follow the NBA.

I grew up with watching Lucas at PF. Those days PF's put the power in the position name.

Agreed. Power Forward is a misnomer these days.

again...Portland is hard-capped at the 138.6M apron. They have somewhere in the vicinity of 7-8M in room below the Apron right now. Aldridge isn't possible

This is why I think RoCo will get the most minutes on the team at the 4. I do think Zach will get a lot and he is a traditional PF but then Melo will get some too and he's not exactly a traditional 4.

A prime Shareef Abdul-Rahim would be perfect for this team.

Honesntly, with the exception of CJ I think this team fits extremely well together and doesn't need anything else. It's going to be a challenge getting all of these established talented guys playing time the way it is.

Great. We'll have Stotts apologists complain that Olshey got too many options for Stotts and that it won't be his fault when we make an early exit in the playoffs.

Reef didn't play defense. Prime Sheed would have been baller though. He was a really solid defender, he could shoot the three, and he could run the floor.

Stotts will have to adjust and spread minutes around more than he has in the past but he's still not going to hold guys accountable and he's still going to play Dame and CJ together way too much. If he keeps seeing all starters as 30+ minutes per game, that's his fault. If he doesn't hold people accountable or emphasize defense (both of which are likely) that's his fault and if he doesn't realize that Dame and CJ are bad for each other that his fault (this is an almost certainty).
