People say the MJ bulls could never stand up to the legendary Lakers showtime dynasty of the 80s, but one year after the Rockets were the worst team in the nba, the olajuwon/sampson lead frontcourt stormed through them in 5 games almost by frontcourt alone. Were the Lakers really unbeatable?

The Lakers were contendors from the late 70's to the early 90's winning 5 championships through the era. That is a long time to be a championship contendor and winning 5 rings is definetely enough to secure your place in NBA history as a great dynasty. However, through those 13 or so years, the Lakers were far from un-beatable. The Celtics and Pistons were both able to beat the Showtime Lakers in the finals. Jordan's Bulls also won their first championship over the Lakers. They never had complete dominance of the NBA like Jordan's Bulls did. Showtime Lakers were a great dynasty but won't compare to Jordan's Bulls.

ummm no.The Knicks never even saw the Finals in the 80's during the showtime Lakers. In fact they sucked. The Lakers won 5 championships, The sixers 1, the Celtics 3 and the Pistons won 2 from 80-90 (that's 11 seasons)The Lakers were co-dominant in the era with the Celtics. The Bulls never really had a west coast rival as the Lakers were aging and changing, the Suns only got the finals once they traded for BarkleyThe Blazers had 2 finals appearances, but 1 was vs the Pistons.Basically a lot of teams had good years but none of them could sustain it like the Celtics did for the Lakers.Keep in mind the Lakers did make the finals 8 times during those 11 years. They lost to a perfectly peaking 76ers team with Moses, Dr. J and mo cheeks, The Celtics and lost a chance at a three-peat to a peaking Pistons team they had beat the year before.sooo 8 appearances in 11 years = hell yeah a dynasty.

Not to mention, 1986 wasn't one of LA's good years. That was before Pat Riley handed the team over to Magic. The Lakers were a slower post team then, and vonerable to teams like Houston.
