You would think so... but actually look at a list and there aren't many above average starters in the NBA. Orlando, Washington, Charlotte, Sacramento, Chicago could be places RoCo is possibly the best or second best player.
I'd take SGA over RoCo 8 days a week, and even in his aged, declined state, I'd say Horford is also still better. As for the Knicks... not a ton of argument there, though I really like Mitchell Robinson.
Collins is hurt for a month plus right now so Giles could get his minutes. Maybe they give Melo some back to backs off. They could also play RoCo or DJJ at the 3 more with Giles at the 4 so maybe he takes some Hood minutes. Heck maybe they keep RoCo under 30mpg or DJJ at or just under 20mpg with Giles getting some of their PF minutes. Nurk never plays huge minutes so maybe they try to keep him closer to 25mpg some nights. Kanter got DNP in Boston; if Giles plays well he could take some of his minutes. There will be rest and injuries in the year. Giles may not play on opening night but when the team plays back to backs, injuries, etc there will be plenty of opportunity. Maybe Giles doesn't impress and is out of the rotation all year, who knows. But if Giles is putting up production as good or better as in Sacramento; 17/10 per36 with good advanced stats, he can certainly help the team on the court. Now if our other options are vastly superior 100% of the time to a healthy Giles, that means the Blazers are having great production from our bigs this year. That would be a great problem to have.
he’s still in covid protocol because he was in Bosnia until Sunday. I’m guessing he won’t play in a game until next week.
