When on draft night we traded Harry Giles III and Justin Jackson jr for Zach Collins i knew we screwed up, how in hell can you trade a player who was projected #1 overall out of High School for another white american big? After years of evidence that Collins isn't anything special Harry Giles showed more in 20 minutes than Collins did in an entire career. AND NOW WHAT? we're gonna lose him for NOTHING because he will demand a lot of money after this season. The same can be said for Gary Trent, at the end of the season we are going to lose Trent and Giles because in the eyes of Olshey McCollum is Michael Jordan and Collins is Bill Walton. That really bothers me because both Trent and Giles plays hard on both ends of the floor and i'm tired of one-dimensional players.
Every year we have fans thinking big men are going to get paid. No. Not Kanter. Not Hassan. Not Giles. Especially considering his injury history. If we want him, we can have him. As for Trent, he's restricted. Olshey knows to pay his draft picks because we're a small market and can't get talent anytime we want. We have to draft it. He's staying. I'm more concerned about keeping Derrick Jones Jr. but I think he's likely going the Rodney Hood route with a promise. Kind of seemed Trent Jr. was auditioning to take CJ's role and place tonight for down the road.
Kanter and Whiteside both had bad reputations with former teams and weren't projected #1 overall out of High School. Harry Giles was projected higher than Jayson Tatum before the injuries, he's a joy to watch. Trent is either gonna leave for free or he'll stay with a massive overpayed contract what will mortgage our future, you can't get good deals when a player enter RFA, especially when it's a projected weak FA class.
Trent can't leave unless we want him to. We can pay to keep him if we want to. If Giles were ready before now we wouldn't have gotten him back. We didn't miss out on anything there. Hopefully it's coming soon...
Trent is restricted, we can match everything and Neil will do it because Trent is worth it. Giles needs to show that he can stay healthy and have a impact in Regular Season and Playoffs, we can keep all 3 of them including Collins. Ownership has to pay for it
I get that this is a forum, but why do people entertain drivel? Like, make a stupid post and have it be ignored and learn your lesson. No, not here, we have to placate stupidity because we are nice.
Giles DJJ are the possible unrestricted free agents... If they play well we try to resign them. If we lose one we move on. That is the risk with free agents, it goes with the benefit that we aren't locked into long contracts. Giles could be given the MLE. People had the fears of losing Whiteside for nothing. Turns out he was worth the vet minimum. Neil will have to prioritize who he wants to build around Dame the next few offseasons. The team can likely keep any single player they want but if many of them play well they won't be able to keep all of them. The benefit of that will be a couple fun winning seasons now.
Welp. Looks like i was right a out the season and trolls. Tunchi what the hell man??? I know you are more than a troll aNd are a Blazer fan but you do realize your posts spell a completely different take? i mean you dont come on here until we kill on our first preseason game, and then all you have to posts is negativity? Not one good comment? Not one thought of how good we might be this year if Giles explodes like bam did last year? thats all i could think a out last night after watching. But it seems all you could do is wallow in the past. guess what? We traded giles for collins. And now we have both!!!! Wtf are you bitching about? i swear, if we won it all you would bitch about the parade not going down your street!!!!
lol, his girlfriend must have dumped him and he's now mad at the world. One preseason game that we played pretty good and now the team is done.
Portland may not be a free agent destination, but one thing Portland does is the ability to get players to stay with Portland. Look at players like Marcus Camby, Wes Mathews, Melo etc as they chose to stay rather than leave as free agents. As for your Trent rant, what exactly could Olshey have done any different? Should he have told Stotts not to develop him and play him so his value would be low?
