Given the uncertainty about employment, hospital access, possible evictions, lack of food, etc., I think most folks first referred to them as, "Oh, crap!"

Sweden's king has said his country "failed" to save lives with its relatively relaxed approach to the coronavirus pandemic.

King Carl XVI Gustaf made the remarks as part of an annual TV review of the year
    with the royal family.

Sweden, which has never imposed a full lockdown, has seen nearly 350,000 cases and more than 7,800 deaths - a lot more than its Scandinavian neighbours.

Prime Minister Stefan Lofven said he agreed with the king's remarks.

"Of course the fact that so many have died can't be considered as anything other than a failure," Mr Lofven told reporters.

Referring to the government's strategy, Mr Lofven added that "it's when we are through the pandemic that the real conclusions can be drawn".

Mitch McConnell on deck to get his Covid vaccine. The guy who has fucked up so much and so many, delaying a stimulus bill, didn’t wear a mask for months. Hard for me to put into words how mad this makes me. I hope he has a horrendous reaction to it and dies. Piece of shit.

Agree, I have been very impressed with the actions taken by the Idaho gov. They were making plans before we had our first covid case. But....

It is a large group of irresponsible people that refuse to obey simple rules, such as when and where to wear a mask in public, that have have caused a rapid increase in cases here.

Man thats so misguided and misinformed.

Those people traveled to other indoor places and got infected. Thus, if they limit that contact... gee golly!

might turn out that all the talk about how Covid represents a very small danger to younger people was just more mistaken assumption about a pandemic we've always been chasing:

    * "Young adults are dying at historic rates. In research published on Wednesday in the Journal of the American Medical Association, we found that among U.S. adults ages 25 to 44, from March through the end of July, there were almost 12,000 more deaths than were expected based on historical norms.

In fact, July appears to have been the deadliest month among this age group in modern American history. Over the past 20 years, an average of 11,000 young American adults died each July. This year that number swelled to over 16,000

Congress struggles to seal final Covid relief, funding deal with shutdown hours away

    KEY POINTS
    • Congress has only hours to prevent a government shutdown as lawmakers struggle to finalize a $900 billion coronavirus relief package.
    • Congressional leaders aim to approve both the pandemic aid plan and a spending bill, but they may have to pass a short-term funding bill to buy time to finish and write a rescue proposal.
    • Last-minute disputes are preventing Congress from passing a relief package that includes direct payments, small business loans and a boost to unemployment insurance

THE new Covid-19 variant that has ripped through the South East is 70 per cent more contagious than the original strain, Boris Johnson revealed today.

The PM today revealed the "frighteningly transmissable" new variant was spreading rapidly - forcing him to put millions of Brits in Tier 4 lockdown for Christmas.
