We're getting outrebounded fairly badly, despite other teams hitting all their shots against us. Also our assist totals are pitiful. What's the deal?

    upload_2020-12-19_11-12-12.png

[Edit: now I think about it, this makes sense: if other teams don't miss, there aren't DR for us. And we seem to suck at OR as well. Meanwhile, all our clanking pads their rebounding numbers.]

Wait why would that be, "despite other teams hitting all their shots against us"? If we miss more shots that's more defensive rebound chances for them and if they make all of their shots that's no defensive rebound possibilities for us. So the rebounding disparity, if you want to correlate it to opponent's fg%, makes sense. We are pitiful at getting assisted baskets and have been for a while.

Hard to get rebounds when a majority of the team is spread out around the 3pt line. If there is someone in the lane, they are usually left to go 1 on 3 or 4 for the rebound.

Zach will help when he's healthy.

I not so worry about defense rebound s against us but when some one shoots a 3 point shot then he gets his own rebound then that's a problem. We also giving up 12 offense a game on average that's also a problem.

Maybe I missed it, but is there anything about the Blazers’ performance the last 3 games that isn’t a problem?

Zach isn't a good rebounder...not for either of his positions or his size

He been improving each year he average around 7 last year the games he played. Me a PF should get 8-9 boards a game. Strong center should get double rebounds.

he has not improved each year; not in total rebounding and especially not in defensive rebounding which I believe is the biggest issue for Portland:

    upload_2020-12-19_12-11-42.png

obviously, last season isn't much a a gauge because of sample size, but career marks of 12.2% total rebounding rate and a 17% defensive rebounding rate are bad marks for a PF/C. Maybe he's come out in his 4th season and dramatically improve, but the trend lines sure don't indicate that possibility

Was gonna start a new thread, but then I remembered I've already pissed off the thread police. So now I expect complaints about "necro-ing" threads. Anyway, we suck at rebounding, unsurprisingly, having traded Josh Hart and lost Nurk. But seriously, Dame had to get 10 rebounds last night even while scoring his usual 40 points, and that's just unsustainable. Who will save us? Jayce Johnson?

Hard to believe this roster as constructed would have a hard time rebounding.

Clearly, we need and add length at almost every position. This roster is almost comically undersized.

I wonder if getting the 19 boards per game of Nurk, Grant and Winslow back after the break will help?

Of course. It's the lack of depth with our size that kills us. The idea that we don't have a PF larger than Jeremy (I don't count Drew) is crazy to me.

Absolutely. I certainly don’t think we’re big enough…just nowhere near as big as we are when healthy. That was abundantly on display last night.
