The Blazers had trouble with the Jazz last season. The Blazers only played Utah twice last season because of the pandemic. They didn't face them in the bubble or the playoffs. But, two games was enough. The Blazers faced them December 26th, the day after Christmas where they led the Blazers convincingly all game before Portland came back in the last minutes before ultimately falling short 121-115. Fast forward to February 7th to a game that will not soon be forgotten by Portland fans. Anfernee Simons was taken out by Royce O'Neale early on, sustaining a head injury and leaving the game, with no repercussions for O'Neale. Then as the Blazers battling for the playoffs were on the edge of winning, Lillard's shot at the basket with 19.5 seconds left was knocked away by Rudy Gobert on an obvious goaltend. It went uncalled and was thus unable to be reviewed. It would have tied the game. Gobert and the Jazz laughed it off as they won 117-114. Lillard exploded, showing a side rarely seen. He raged at the refs who claimed it wasn't even close to a goaltend, despite replays showing it obviously was. Post game the NBA and refs admitted it was a goaltend and a missed call and offered apologies. No matter that they cost Portland a game. No rememedy except a lousy sorry. You can bet Damian Lillard has not forgotten. Lillard scored 42 points that fateful night to lead the Blazers. Question: Will Lillard finish this "revenge" game with over/under 42 points?
