I've seen too many trades between teams in conference to buy that bullshit any more. Paul George, Russell Westbrook and Chris Paul have all been traded from one Western Conference team to another... um, the Rockets were involved in those trades in fact. If we have the right pieces outside of Dame to acquire Harden is a whole different story.

I just don't know how teams around the league and in this case Houston specifically view CJ's value as a player and then his value when taking into consideration that contract. If CJ isn't seen as having much value then you're right we have very little to offer. If they think CJ is a good to very good player and that his contract won't look too bad in a couple of seasons then I think CJ, all of our young talent and 3 first rounders or CJ, Nurk and 3 first rounders could be enough.

From what I've read from reporters other teams have offered talent like Simmons or the Brooklyn package but not talent and a bunch of draft capital. Although lets say CJ and Nurk isn't as much talent as Simmons or the rumored Brooklyn package, if we were willing to include three first rounders and Houston is rumored to really want picks, then that might be the best offer Houston is going to get in their estimation and enough to let Harden go. We'll see.

Here’s the actual Quick quote about “staunchly” refusing to trade CJ in context:

“Lillard and McCollum don’t just coexist on the court. They are close off it. They vacation together. Workout together. Heck, even their mothers are close. There is a depth and transparency to their relationship that is unmistakable.

It’s why Neil Olshey, the Blazers’ president of basketball operations, has so staunchly rejected the idea of trading McCollum. Years ago, when asked about breaking up the backcourt, Olshey broke from his strict policy of not addressing player contracts or status. He countered with his own question: Why would he break up one of the best backcourts in the NBA?

Today, that question is different, because it involves Harden, who has led the league in scoring the past three seasons. It is unknown whether the Blazers are interested, or have inquired about what it would take to land Harden, but if there was a player who could rival McCollum for holding prime real estate in Olshey’s heart, it would be Harden.”

Danny Marang has some great commentary on the Harden situation. Well worth a listen.

Thanks. So Quick said that Olshey has staunchly rejected a trade in the past, but now for a player vastly better than McCollum, would not reject it out of hand.

The NBA Central tweet is misleading, then. It infers that Olshey rejects it now. The tweet:

Report: Trail Blazers have "staunchly rejected" idea of trading C.J. McCollum"

The past participle of the verb "to reject" is "to have rejected." So the tweeter is technically accurate, but knows that readers will read the verb in the present tense.

Yes but Spurs refused to trade Kawhi to western conference team. Makes sense.

I get the concept, I just don't think Houston has seemed to care but that was under Morey... so maybe now they won't be willing. I guess we'll see.

I was just trying to come up with anything feasible without Mc Collum in the deal; haven't got to the point of thinking if it was fair.

I would hope it was a lie; although now we seem to be seeing that Olshey didn't even say it?

I am glad Jason Quick gave the update. As a LONG time Blazer fan, if trading for Harden gives us a strong possibility of another title "Go For It". Another championship in Portland has been long overdue. Go Blazers...

I agree with them that Houston most likely not interested in Nurkic. As far as the desirability of acquiring Harden, they are preaching to the choir. BTW, do all Blazer podcasters wear baseball caps and beards?

It's a new league-wide mandate to try something new, regardless of how much it obscures our view of their facial expressions.

Nurkic is an average NBA starting center. He had a hot month or two right before he was injured, with Lillard setting him up after the coaches yelled at Nurkic for a year. Now he's back to normal. His main talent is 290 fun-loving pounds, which is 200 more than a 90-pounder lost on the beach.

refusing to deal kawhi to a WC team was stupid. Cut half the league/competition out of the bidding, and he was back a year later.

plus the spurs have not even been close to contenders since the trade....I can understand if you don’t want to face him in the WCF but the spurs have been squeaking in.
