I've seen people in real life that believe as MARIS does. There's a whole forum of such people at Free Republic. Parlor is Twitter for MARISes.
The good intention rule and trolling rule are separate in nature. Trolling is usually in good fun and not serious. I dont take @EL PRESIDENTE serious in his pretend trolling posts. Someone with bad intentions is someone who comes to the site just to directly attack others. 1. All posters with honorable intentions are welcome. 4. Flame wars are not allowed. We do tolerate poking fun of one another ingood fun, but hateful posts towards another poster are not allowed. 5. Trash talk is allowed. It's one thing to call Portland's NBA team the "Jailblazers" and another to call their fans idiots. The former is allowed, the latter is not.
How does that make sense? Trolling is the opposite of good intentions. You can't be a troll with "honorable intentions." I always read the "honorable intentions" rule as a "no trolling" rule and my opinion is that Sly is basically removing that rule.
okay but then sly would need to ban himself. Hcp would be banned. I would be banned. Half the forum would be banned. Lighthearted trolling is a regular occurrence. I bet i could find a post with you trolling even.
Yeah, I'm also not looking for anyone to be banned (and I actually didn't really think MIXUM had to be banned), but let's call a spade a spade. If trolling isn't against the rules, than the "honorable intentions" thing is no longer a rule.
I explained the rule above. Maybe it isn't exactly good intentions to troll someone. The good intentions rule is aimed more at someone coming in the forum solely to attack people directly. El President isn't really attacking anyone. He is pretending to want to see the world burn. If Trolling turns into personal insults then it crosses the line and is taken care of. When it got personal earlier in the thread those posts were removed and it was asked to for the personal insults to stop.
also @Chris Craig said the good intention part it is in the OT section so maybe it doesn’t apply to the main forum
Yeah, I just didn't agree with your interpretation. We already have a "no personal attacks" rule. The "honorable intentions" rule, I'm fairly sure, was a "no trolling" rule when it was created. As you said, a Lakers fan who came with the sole intention of trolling Portland fans would be removed--that's a "no trolling" rule. This is Sly's forum to run, so if he wants to suspend it, especially in the OT forum, that's entirely his call. But I think it's disingenuous to claim no rule has ever changed. At least, that's my opinion.
I dont remember what he was banned for. I am sure Sly had a good reason. He doesn't like to ban people regardless of what might be thought. He gives many warnings and attempts other remedies before it gets to that
