Man, just learned a few things regarding older home theater/receiver systems. The beach house we purchased back in 2018 was fully furnished - including an older Yamaha HTR-5890 receiver. We rarely get down there, so I never took the time to delve into what we actually had. Anyway, my brother and sister-in-law and us spent some time there this past week and he's like, "Why don't you have this thing hooked up?" I had no answer for him. He then proceeds to connect the system to the smart tv via optical cable. Full 7:1 with ceiling mounted speakers. I had gotten rid of the subwoofer as I thought it was old, wired technology. He said, "Never, EVER get rid of a powered subwoofer! I don't care HOW old it is! I'll take it!" We had a bit of a laugh over that. I've since ordered a Polk subwoofer from Amazon. The rca wiring comes out of the wall, so will be ready to go once connected. The sound is already amazing as-is, though. Then, he and I go to Best Buy where he shows me a bluetooth unit that connects to the receiver. I'm now able to stream spotify thru my phone. The house was completely wired with speakers to every bedroom and outdoor decks. It's a beautiful thing. So much for assuming old technology can't be converted.
Scored a pretty decent subwoofer today. https://www.costco.com/klipsch-r-12sw-reference-powered-subwoofer.product.100526745.html
