I like regularly going to https://www.aljazeera.com/ for news. It gives an interesting perspective about the USA from outside of the USA. Also Shepard Smith's show on CNBC is pretty "fair and balanced."
For me personally (not that I have EVER thought you had a racist bone in your body)? Because I know you, I’ve socialized with you, I’ve had discussions with you and I have seen how you interact with others. But........like it or don’t, at this time in history the Republican Party is far more of a magnet for racists than the Democratic Party. That’s not to say the Dems are devoid of racists, but what we saw on 1/6 was a Republican (NOT Democratic, despite malicious misdirection by the right) affiliated mob of people looking to retain their white privilege. The unfortunate reality for anti Trump (or ambivalent Trump) conservatives is that they have been painted with the Trump brush and it’s going to take time, effort and action to scrub it off. It’s kinda like 2016 when us Trump haters were branded “libtards” and “snowflakes” despite our loathing for Hillary Clinton. No one on the Right wanted to hear our side of things. The winners get to make up the labels. Haters are gonna hate, and to some left leaning folks a conservative is the same as a MAGAt. Doesn’t make it right or fair but it doesn’t change the reality. Trump created a shitload of damage and some people want blood (Again, a reverse negative of 2016). Good guys like you, HailBlazers and Johnnyboy are collateral damage. And I for one deeply regret that. Welcome to American politics.......
I go to overseas news feeds to find out what the hell is going on in the world....news here is all about who Ben Affleck just puked on. We really have the worst international coverage in the American market...it's actually embarrassing
See I don't think that's necessarily true. Someone could vote Republican and not necessarily like Trump. I have seen Democrats do it plenty of times. Kitzhaber?
Over the first full week of 2021 (Jan. 4 through Jan. 10), CNN ranked first among cable networks (roughly 2.8 million viewers per day; 4.2 million in primetime) followed by MSNBC (2.3 million per day ;3.8 million in primetime) and Fox News in third (1.7 million per day; 3.2 million in primetime). https://www.forbes.com/sites/tommyb...cnn-and-msnbc-in-two-decades/?sh=4158da435342
When I say "supporter," I don't mean you love Trump. I mean that you're willing to support him, and all he stands for. Willing to, not necessarily thrilled to. Maybe you're doing it for an anti-abortion position. Maybe you're doing it because you really believed he's an economic whiz. That doesn't change that you're willing to support a racist, you just have your reasons for doing so.
I give up....What does that reference Wook? Q...quit? E...eating D...dirt? Q...qualify E...Ed D...Davis Q...Quarantine E....Every D....Dickhead? Q....quality E.....education D.....dude
You can't really think that no racists are democrats, can you? And would an openly racist Democrat congressional member be the only thing that would prove it to you?
I have said this many times in this forum, the Republican party has a racist problem. Through the actions, inactions, and words from many in the party, including it's figurehead Trump, people who are openly racist feel that they now have a voice in the republican party. This does not mean that all republicans are racists. This does not mean that there are no racists in the dem party. But openly racist people feel they can be openly racist under the republican banner. That's not a problem for dems to deal with. And it's only a problem if repubs feel that it is.
they in elected office? are they as vile as the ones in the GOP? Or I'll frame this better so my point is clear because it keeps getting skewed: Is overt racism one of the core tenets of these people's political platforms? Because it damn sure is for quite a few GOP members in office, and it was for the guy who just left this morning.
Talk to your local and county republican party elected officials. Not saying that they like or support racists, tell them that if they do, you won't support them and will work to get them voted out of office and replaced by other republicans. Or run for Canby city council. Or something like that.
I think that's why you (not YOU, just all of us) see a lot of posts or things online that basically say, you may not be racist if you voted Trump, but you decided that racism wasn't a deal breaker. It fits here, I believe. It's deciding on what is most important to you with your vote. Generalizing here, so not saying all republicans, or all voters, etc. But, is it more important that, say, your 401K continues to grow, and gives you a healthy and safe future, at the expense of the poor and the minorities? Is abortion an all or nothing vote killer, where you can excuse every other deplorable thing thrown out, if abortion is opposed? Do you feel that it's worth it to sacrifice a bigger chunk of your paycheck to support programs that help out the poor, hungry, old, etc. There's not a clear answer to it, and people will get called out for their votes. It's ranking your priorities. If you think that ultimately the republican party helps YOU, then vote that way. But if people get upset because your vote shits on others, I think you answer with well, I voted X because it helps me. Or I care more about Y than anything else, so I choose that.
