Here is a great video explaining how Nurkic broke his wrist. Makes more sense now when you see it from the correct angle.
You kind of wonder about play style as an indicator for injury proneness. Literally in the post game for the Sacramento game before this, Nurk was talking about the steal and fastbreak layup he got in that game. Said the coaches don't want him reaching and going for these types of plays because he's a center, but Nurk said that's just who he is, so he's going to continue going for these types of plays. Next game - goes for a similar reach - breaks his wrist. Freak accident? Maybe, but damned if it's not unlucky.
The good news is this is his wrist. He'll be able to get into basketball shape aerobically (he hadn't quite yet) by doing a heavy dose of conditioning. It's not a leg or shoulder injury that requires immobilization of a part of the lower body or a large joint.
I sure hope he hits it hard. If he is gonna come back it would be tough to see him need two to three weeks again to get into shape.
Nice. Hope he uses this time to get some peace mentally and also keeping his conditioning up. Also a good time to work on your left hand
8 weeks always seemed like a super conservative timeline. Even Holdahl mentioned it. Hopefully that’s the maximum number rather than the minimum. Would not be surprised if Nurk made it back before CJ.
I'm assuming re-evaluation means testing the wrist before clearing Nurk to resume using it on court. That still make it seem like 8 weeks is realistic
Yeah.... the foot has lb. pressure on it and in a game, stress throughout the tendons affect other leg muscles. In Nurks' case, his hand won't have the same stress points as compared to leg elements.
Here's another guy who apparently was available at the time Nurk went down. He had almost 5 blocks per 36 last year with Philadelphia: Free-agent forward Norvel Pelle is planning to sign a deal with the Brooklyn Nets once he clears health and safety protocols, his agents, BJ Bass and Tod Seidel, told ESPN. Pelle, 27, is a limited all-around big man but an electric shot-blocker who has shown an ability to control space near the rim in his brief NBA and G League career. Pelle will have to continue to test negative for the coronavirus for several days before he can be cleared to join the Nets, sources said. The Nets have three available roster spots since the James Harden trade, and they hope Pelle can provide a measure of rebounding and shot-blocking depth to an offensive juggernaut desperate to tighten up defensively. Pelle played 24 games for the 76ers a season ago, blocking 1.3 shots in an average of 9.7 minutes per game. He had signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers this season on an Exhibit 10 contract and had planned to join the Canton Charge in the G League's Orlando bubble before committing to the Nets deal.
