Seems every time I check the forum this guy is out. I understand it’s not his fault and things happen, and as I’m watching sportscenter with Embiid having a renaissance I’m hoping luck will finally start to rub off on Jusuf. Blazers cursed or just par for the course?
Nurk has never had the talent of Embiid. As far as contracts go, Nurk is one of Olshey's better values, even with all the DNPs.
At least people stopped saying he is better than Jokic But for sure we got our money s worth. He has had some very bad luck so far, but when healthy he has played above 13M. Don't forget there is many garbage players making that amount and Nurk is a solid starter.
two ways to look at it IMO: * if you're just contrasting base salary, by game, vs production and impact, then Nurk has provided decent-to-good value. But that's a really narrow way to look at everything * coming into this season, Portland had played 176 counting games (regular & playoff) since Nurkic signed his contract. Nurkic had only played in 84 of those games...less than half. So, essentially double his salary to get an idea of how his salary stacks up when adjusted for injury. Has Nurkic been worth 24-25M a year? Nope not only that, Portland has had to make roster moves because of Nurkic's lack of dependability. They paid Whiteside 27M last season because of Nurkic. They picked up Kanter this season although you can certainly argue that was a sound decision, with or without Nurkic. In a sense, Nurkic occupies two roster slots: his own and the replacement Portland needs when he goes down the worry is that Nurkic just didn't start getting injured when he arrived in Portland. He missed 70 game in two years in Denver. By the time he comes back from the latest injury, he'll have played in less than half of the games he could have in 7 seasons. That's not good value, even at 'only' 13M/year. And the negative value extends to roster uncertainty because of this
When the Blazers fired Lenny Wilkens he quoted "watch, Bill will finally be healthy, and they will win a championship" Was it Bill be healthy or the addition of some aba players and the Doc?
A healthy Nurkic doesn’t win a championship. I’m fine with trading Nurk, Collins, Simmons, Little and Blevins without losing any sleep. Add Drummond and Randle to Dame, CJ, RoCo, Kanter, Trent, DJJ, Hood, Melo - We’d be much better defensively and much tougher. Randle adds scoring as well. Figure out how to get Bjinca (spelling) and we are strong trade RoCo for a very good PG and pick and we’re good-to-go
No we have not gotten our money worth. Nurk has 1 career playoff win, 9 losses and 19 DNP injured. He needs to be healthy for the playoffs or he's fools gold. Zach Collins has a much better playoff resume. Nurk has teased us as he's been the teams second best player for long portions of prior regular seasons. Can he do more than tease? I hope so but I need to see it. Being in poor shape to start this year didn't help.
Embiid would absolutely kill Nurkic, i would bet money that Nurk wouldn't even score 10 points on Embiid
Going back to the trade, I know Mason Plumlee ain’t all that, and we got an extra 1st round pick that we packaged to get Collins so all in all we did come out ahead in that aspect. It’ll be interesting to see if he gets resigned.
