Looks like Gorton was pretty pissed at DeAngelo even before this incident. I think the kid should go get some mental help, go to europe, learn how to play wing, come back in a year. Try to salvage his career.
If Smith is out they should definately be bringing up Hajek or Reunanen, which they should be doing anyway.
I don't want to see Johnson/Smith/Rooney/Bitetto/Brodzinski for much longer. If we are going to lose and struggle anyway, bring up more kids and let them play. Barron, Hajek, Reunanen and others should get experience this season for the future.

Solid win tonight. Kreider and Panarin played really well. Igor was solid. Let's see if they can keep it going against the Caps. Some time to practice coming up. Off until Thursday. Then no game Saturday means off until next Monday. So one game over the next week.

On the latest edition of TSN’s Insider Trading, Darren Dreger noted that Tony DeAngelo has a ton of interest. Per a source, he could be traded within days. The question is, who do we get in return, and how much cap hit do we retain.
I don't understand why any GM would bail the Rangers out with a trade when they could wait for Tony's release and give up nothing. Hope Dreger is right. Callahan and Hartnell were on NHL tonight talking about it last night, interesting player's perspective.
If you believe several sites that their is a bidding war for him then it will be more than that. I guess at his salary, nobody wanted him. At half his salary, he's a huge risk/reward guy worth it. I've been clamoring for Bennett here for a long time. He's nasty, built for the playoffs and is exactly the type we need. I think they will go for a top faceoff guy. Glendening on Detroit is insane. He's winning 69% of his draws. His offense blows but the Rangers have lost at least 3 games in third periods because of clean losses in the D zone. Henrique is a guy I always liked. His contract at 5.8 runs about 4 more years. If you deal for him and a couple of second rounders and give up Strome and DeAngelo at half retained, it would make sense. Henrique is a 56% draw guy. His offense would pick up a lot here. The Ducks offense blows. The money would be close to a wash for us. Next year worthless Smith comes off the books. We save around 9 million with Hank and Shattenkirk on the cap. It's really important we get a stud, faceoff center with some offense to take draws on the PP to get setup and late in games to stop from blowing fucking leads.

I figured Detroit for sure. Calgary as well. Bennett would be a nice get. He's nasty as well. Wanted him last year. I don't see what Detroit is going to offer other than Glendening who is old and prospects. Dekeyser would be a great stop gap on the left side. He's 30 with one more year on his contract at similar money to DeAngelo.
McKenzie brings up a fair point when you look at the #'s (a buyout this summer really isn't a major impact on the cap the next 2 seasons, and is way less than 2.4/50% retained next season - over 2 mill less): “Here’s the rub, the New York Rangers plan B would be if they don’t trade him is to buy him out at the end of the year,” McKenzie revealed. “In other words, the Rangers are not prepared to retain a huge amount of salary, the Rangers are not prepared to take on a huge contract the other way.” From a financial standpoint, the Rangers could retain up to $2.4 million of DeAngelo’s contract for this season and next year to make a deal work. Of course, because he’s 25 a 1/3 buyout is also possible which means lesser cap penalties. Per Cap Friendly, the Rangers would only face a $383,333 hit in 2021-22 and a $883, 333 charge the season after. Teams looking to trade for him should understand that, and realize Jeff Gorton does not have his back up against the wall as initially believed.
Sam Bennett likely won’t be in the Flames lineup tonight against the Winnipeg Jets. Coach decision. This may fuel trade speculation, but sources say, at the moment, there is nothing on the front burner related to trade. The Rangers need centers, the Flames need defense – it’s fairly simple to connect these two dots. Financially, the Flames are paying the 24 year-old Bennett $2.55 million and have $1.337 in space to play with. The Rangers would be willing to eat some of DeAngelo’s salary to make it work, just not 50%. If the Rangers were to retain maybe $1 million on DeAngelo, the Flames could make this deal work. Both sides get what they need and two birds are killed with one stone as they say.
The Kings and Wings both have multiple 2nd and 3rd rounders this year, so maybe we can swing a 2nd and 3rd from one of them.
