I got a new Wifi6 router to go with my gig internet.

My hardwired PC is getting 900+ MBPS speeds but the wifi still sucks, which is confusing.

But what's weird is that the connection info in my wireless properties says the link is 1k+.

What's also weird is that it's showing a Wifi 5 protocol.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

Hmmmm I think my laptop can only get wifi 5. That's probably why it's so slow.

...actually you may want to look into your router settings and set your wifi on a channel that has low usage in your area. Typically you will find mass congestion of the default channels for 5G in your area (neighbors routers and other 5G devices) whereas switching channels will open things up for high speeds. If you have android you can use the WiFi Analyzer app to find the best channels to assign.

What kind of phone do you have? My Samsung S10+ has Wifi6, the icon on the screen's bar changes when its connected.

Why do you need gig speed for your laptop?

That’s a good suggestion. I have an iPhone though.

    iPhone.

    Because I paid for it!

I thought wifi 6 was good for devices within your network connected together.

...I am sure iOS has similar wifi analyzer apps (as long as it can see the wifi channels in use for your area you should be golden). I had same issues with wifi picking up neighbors wifi and 2.4/5ghz devices all clogging up the same few channels by default. Switched to one that wasn't in use and all wifi connected devices max out like the hardwire connection.

So I couldn't find an app that I liked but I downloaded a program for my computer that does the same thing. Any time I picked a channel that wasn't in use, it would show my band as 20 or 40 instead of 80. Aren't those slower bands?

Also I looked and my laptop doesn't get the radio frequency for wifi 6. So I ordered a USB wifi card that gets gig speed and wifi 6. Only cost like $15.
