Trent doesn't have a choice in the matter. He's a RFA. We can keep him if we want to. I am all for your first scenario though... I want Trent starting at SG for a long time.
Cj has beee #2 scoring shooting guard in the playoffs the last couple years and in the top 5 the last 4 years. He turns it up in the playoffs.
I respectively disagree. They are two different types of SGs. Why not have both? Hell, there were games last year where Dame, CJ , and Trent effectively ended games together. You want to win a championship you need a lot of things and depth is one of them. Having said that, I am ok with trading one of them for a superstar. I just don't think it is very realistic. And trading for anything less than one does not make sense to me. We will learn a lot in these next 7 games about how Gary fits in as a starter. Personally, next year when Melo is gone, I would love to see CJ come off the bench with Ant and Hood. (and 2 defenders) And as I alluded to.... end most games with Dame, CJ and Trent. (depending on the matchups)
You need a 6 man spark plug guard off the bench....CJ or Trent but you need both....CJ is more Jamal Crawford than Klay Thompson.....if I know Neil....Gary won't go anywhere and if he gets an offeer we'll match it
The problem is that CJ is too good and overpaid to come off the bench but if he's not the lead guard, then he should be playing a Jamal Crawford role.
Since so many 2021 FAs signed extensions, a bunch of teams have a lot of money and nothing to do with it. Trent will get an offer near $100 million and we won’t match. Elleby will take his spot in the rotation. Sucks but that’s the way it is.
I think you keep CJ and Trent and Trade Ant. Dame CJ and Trent is a great 3 guard rotation. Need a veteran backup to come in during injuries or foul trouble. The problem is you would have to package Ant with someone else to get anyone of use in return.
I just don't think Trent will settle for a bench role when he could start on another team and get paid.
that will be the biggest reason he leaves, not the money, not the weather, not the city. And to be honest, I wouldn't blame him at all for wanting a bigger role.
Perhaps, but who is "paying him"? Teams don't like to make RFA offers because it keeps their $$$ tied up to 2 weeks. If they come away empty, then they lost out on their Plan B and Plan Cs.
Either way, he will get paid the same. (we would be matching) And either way, if he continues to play at a high level he will get his 30+ minutes whether he starts or comes off the bench.
Unlike Crabbe, I don't think there's any question that Trent could be a starter in this league, and a very good one.
Cj should lookover his shoulder. Gary Trent Jr. will be his replacement, unless he proves himself better when he comes back.
Will Trent want to be that spark plug off the bench though? Or will he wants l to go somewhere where he can start?
What are you saying? He will not sign a contract offer? If not, he's a Blazer for another year. If yes, we can match.
He still pissed about being taken late in the draft. In his mind he should have been drafted much higher like a starter. I think he wants to start, period.
Can Portland really match any other offer he gets?? Where will the cash come from? Say he is offered 4y for 80m. Can Portland match that?
