I really think a lot of it is show and an opportunity to give eloquent speeches.

When I saw those videos, I thought the entire procedure was reality but without ratings and a show to match. Personally, I saw emotion and dismay from the impeachment managers that presented the case. Congressman Raskin from MD. wore his heart on his sleeve. I think their emotions and case were real. I am just so disappointed the Dems want to eliminate the witness element. Maybe, their theory to skip this section of the trial was set upon the "political theater" argument Trumps' asinine defense team dreamed up. I think the American people should see and hear all the corrupted politicians and Trump family in clear sight.

I have to disagree. The large majority of Republicans would not convict under ANY circumstances. Period.

The answer to all of this is never, never vote for a GOP candidate again...write in Mickey Mouse before you let these folks make important decisions that affect our lives. If they won't impeach Trump, the voters can respond by voting them out of DC. The GOP has proven beyond a reasonable doubt that they cannot be trusted to protect the republic.

Not a surprise. It was already known a majority of the Republican senators were spineless, soul selling vermin.

They can't help Trump in NY though. They can stop stop Deutch bank from taking everything Trump owns either.

But how do you know they wouldnt have enough compelling evidence. They wouldn't have nothing to lose especially after voting to call witness's. Whats was that?

It sure isn't a deal where if it doesn't fit they must acquit! Why the hell would they vote to call witness's then change their minds? Doesn't make since unless they come out and say because of recess and covid and we would win anyway.

And so was OJ...but at least they called witness's.
Pisses me off they go through this only to have it end like it did. They would have been better of not voting for witness's and saying it would be a waist of time.

I don't know how anyone can be upset, considering this was pretty much a foregone conclusion.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
Republicans were always going to be voting based on political practicalities, not their belief in guilt or innocence. The vast majority of them don't want to lose the Trump loyalists from their voting base the next time they're up for election. The few that voted for conviction believe that such a vote will help them in the general election and they don't have much to fear in terms of being primaried.

They have time to lose. If they've (correctly) determined that witnesses won't change anything in terms of the result, their best play is to wrap up the trial now that they've put all the evidence before the American people (the statement from the congresswoman who would have been a witness to Trump turning down McCarthy's request for help was read out loud) and get on with passing the huge Covid relief stimulus bill.
